Barnes
Wtf was he thinking?
Clean through. Can take it round the keeper. Can stand still and get clattered. Can dink it over him. Or he cam do what he did and what we grumble about every week and ******* dive. What an absolute joke. And then to top it off tries to get himself sent of!!!!!
No need ffs.
Hope he makes up for it this second half.

Re: Barnes
According to Stelling and Phil Thompson clear penalty and goalkeeper made no contact with the ball and made contact with Barnes.

It was weak and having seen the replays I can see why it wasn’t given.

I think it was one of those that can only be one of two things: a foul and therefore penalty or a dive. If he thinks it’s a dive, he’s got to book him.Lord Beamish wrote:Fair enough. Can you fathom why a yellow card was given?

BBC seems to suggest he got a yellow for diving, folk seem to suggest it was for dissent. Which be it?

Looked like the ref was going to book him before he started slating the linesman so it must've been for simulation.

Taken from a match report
"Burnley were, however, somehow denied a penalty when goalkeeper McCarthy clattered into Barnes in the Southampton penalty area - they were last awarded a spot-kick 67 games ago - and instead referee Anthony Taylor booked the striker for simulation."

Blatant penalty.

Goalkeeper caught Barnes as he took ball past him. Unless you think the keeper did not touch Barnes ?

Thought we would never get a pen all season if he can’t give that. How can the ref or lino not see it. Unbelievable.
The ref was an absolute disgrace all afternoon.
How can he not book their player early on with the worst foul of the game. It felt like he was giving them everything.
Completely different game and potentially scoreline if we get the first pen. Potentially lost 6 points in the last 3 games just from inept officials. Best league in the world. Really....

I thought Barnes was looking for it and didn’t need to go down. Have you seen the replays? Fair enough if you think otherwise.

Re: Barnes
Thought it was a definite pen but the way Barnes deliberately moved his foot to ensure he caught the keeper had similarities to the Pope against Man City and the Glen Murray (not so much so)pens that a fair few on here were outraged at them being given as pens against us

Again, I can see why it wasn’t given. The second penalty appeal we had (and won) was blatant. The first, not so much in my opinion.

I was on the game. My lad was on the pitch at half time.
Is it really that strange to want to get an opinion from journalists that have access to replays?

Yep it was definitely coming out before but when someone gets booked for a foul or diving they can get away with a fair bit of dissent without getting the red. Means if youre getting booked anyway you might as well have a good old shout and moan about itLord Beamish wrote:The card came out before the tantrum.
