Heaton 9 Some fantastic saves. Could possibly have come for 1 or 2 crosses instead of staying on his line but almost faultless performance.
Bardsley 7 solid
Tarks 8 Great blocks, tackles and bravery a number of times use of ball could be better
Mee 8 As Tarks
Taylor 7 solid
McNeil 7 A few good moments and our main creative outlet. Faded a bit again.
Cork 7 solid and worked hard but use of ball was not great
Westwood 7 as Cork
Hendrick 8 worked extremely hard and offered a threat going forward.
Barnes 8 - Excellent game but why did he not square the ball to McNeil or Wood when clean through? Greedy, so good job he scored the Pen. Missed an open goal in the first half
Wood 8 - Excellent game again and took his goals well but how did he miss after the foul on Barnes. Maybe that's why Barnes didn't pass!

Overall deserved to win. Not pretty but effective. Need to get better at retaining the ball to relieve some pressure. We are asking a massive amount from our keeper and defense every game. Massive 3 points though.

Heaton 9. Fantastic again. Some incredible saves at nil nil. In fact **** it. Heaton 10.

Bardsley 9. Incredible that he has come in at his age and been so crucial. Has the fight and nous we need.

Taylor 7 thought he lost it uneccesarily a couple of times. And always looks to make things hard for himself at times in the corners. But also did some very good things.

Tarkowski. 9. Imperious.

Mee 8. Solid. Brave.

Hendrick 9. Another fantastic performance in 'the arfield role'.

McNeil 9. What a gem. Another hand in a goal. Another direct, mature performance.

Westwood 9. The english defour. Just dictates it.

Cork 8. Protected the ball well. Won some clever free kicks. Worked well with westwood.

Barnes. 9. Typical Barnes. Physical. Brave. Grafted. Clever movement. Cool penalty finish.

Wood 10. Great partnership with Barnes. Absolutely clinical when it mattered. Ran the line incredibly. He is like a blend of Vokes and Gray.

Heaton. 9. Mom. Just superb. Not just the saves but command of the area
Bardsley. 7. Better in the 2nd half. Missed a good goal scoring op
Tarks. 9. Some superb long passes, what our critics call long balls
Mee.8. A rock
Taylor. 8. Thought he did superbly against some tricky opponents
Hendrick. 8. Our best midfielder
Cork. 7. Okay, but didn't seem able to hold the ball
Westwood. 7. See Cork
McNeil. 7. Some really nice moments.
Wood. 8. Decisive contributions
Barnes. 8. Such a nuisance! But his skill is under rated

From tv.

Heaton......9(-1 for not coming for their goal)

Bardsley.....8
Tarks.........9 MoM
Mee..........9
Taylor........8

Hendrick....8
Westwood...7
Cork..........7
McNeil.......7

Barnes.......7
Wood........8

I’d have liked to give more because everyone of them worked their socks off for the cause and knew their roll to perfection but in fairness they did have an awful lot of chances. So something wasn’t quite right. The fact that Tom is leading the MoM poll shows that.

Heaton 9
Bardsley 8
Taylor 8
Tarks 9
Mee 8
Hendrick 8
Cork 7 (only slightly lower than the rest because unfortunately for them both sides blasted it over their head most of the time so didn’t have as much to do on the ball, but work ethic was top draw)
Westwood 7 (see cork)
McNeil 9 so comfortable and composed and the weight of the pass for wood’s second was perfect
Barnes 7
Wood 9

Fantastic team performance. Fantastic away performance.

Heaton 9 Brilliant saves at 0 0 what a difference he makes ...talking to defenders
Bardsley 8 good game
Tarks 9 blocks headers was everywhere
Mee 9 see Tarks
Taylor 7 was kept busy with March then his replacement
Cork 7 industrious
Westwood 8 much improved player works so hard
Hendrick 8 asked to play in different positions and does his job good game
McNeill 8 faded but he’s so calm on the ball and is positive with his movement another assist, think we have some player here
Barnes 8 nightmare to mark typical Barnes performance well won and taken penalty
Wood 8 very well taken goals .... worked hard

Vital 3 points ....biggest win of the season.

Tom Heaton - 9. 4 or was it 5 fantastic saves. It's so good to have Tom back and showing why he is rightly "England's No. 1."
Phil Bardsley - 7. Some really good defending, and a few stray passes. Always lots of effort.
James Tarkowski - 8. A very impressive game from Tarks. Powering the ball away with his head on several occasions. A couple of 50 yards cross-field diagonal passes into the winger towards the corner flag. Who does he think his team mates are?
Ben Mee - 7. All the effort, as always and a knock that I thought he'd be subbed for (and so did Ben Gibson) but Ben just shook it off and was going again.
Charles Taylor - 7. He gets better every time I watch him. No longer the hesitant and nervous guy who started, I think, his first game at Amex last season.
Jeff Hendrick - 7. One of those games when I could watch Jeff playing and putting all the effort he puts in.
Jack Cork - 7. Full effort, as always, a lot more effective than earlier in the season.
Ashley Westwood - 7. One of the stars of our, so far, 7 games undefeated.
Dwight McNeil - 7. What a great new addition to the team - we all know that. Another good game. Thought he'd been a bit quiet second half, not quite involved, and then he got the ball, took on his man, and another, and served it on a plate for Chris to get his second.
Ashley Barnes - 7. All the passion we want from Ash and all the cool to go with it. Everyone will have seen Ash's pen from last week. Did their keeper know that Ash would put the ball in the net on the other side - despite no one at Burnley having had a Premier League penalty for close to 2 seasons. A very well taken penalty, and so important for us to enjoy the last 20 mins of the game, retaining a 2 goal cushion.
Chris Wood - 8. Any player who scores 2 goals has to have an 8, right? Both were good goals, the second, not so long ago Chris would have missed it, or the keeper would have saved. Today, Chris was the Chris Wood that we like to see.

Yes, Tom Heaton is my mom. Without Tom's 3 saves in the first half we would have been chasing the game at best, or coming away like we did from the London Sradium or Selhurst Park.

A great win. Great 3 points and a great evening down at Brighton. But, oh, what rain and wind and cold! What a filthy winter's evening.

Heaton 9*-Would anyone really swap him for Pickford ha ha. Englands No1
Bardsley -Another very good performance.
Tarkowski 9-Almost faultless.
Mee 8-Excellent.
Taylor 8-Every match this lad gets better and better. Not sure of the contract situation but I hope it's lengthy
Hendrick 7- He got away with one that he didn't at OT.
Westwood 7-Worked hard.
Cork 7-Same as Westwood
McNeil 8-Some wonderful moments and the lad knows when to pass.
Barnes 7-Think his partnership with Wood is getting better and better.
Wood 8-Chris please keep proving me wrong. He's been excellent of late.

A very important 3 points after a very tricky opening 25 minutes.

Heaton 9 thought he could have possibly come for their goal, kept us in it early on.
Bardsley 7
Tarkowski 9 immense, and even his whoosh balls came off!
Mee 8 solid
Taylor 8 great again at defending that back post, a little quieter going forward
Hendrick 7 another good game
Cork 7
Westwood 8 love this guy, no frills, just goes about is business, usually to great effect.
McNeil 8 game comes alive with his fearless runs, seemed to pick the right option too when in promising positions
Wood 8 did just what he needs to do, fair play for letting Barnes get on the score sheet and giving up a hat trick ( if in doubt, kick it out )
Barnes 8 excellent

Could have gone either way really depending who got that first goal, but we kept it out at 1 end, then punished them at the other.
Finally lady luck was on our sde decisions wise, and even a nice little slip to let us in early.
That was a really, really big win today. Not only has it given us some breathing space, we have turned it from a 1 down from 2 team scenario, to a 1 down from 6 scenario with our fantastic little run of late!

Heaton 10 - world class
Bardsley 8 - love his attitude
Tarkowski 9 - came out on top with Murray thks time, and so solid again
Mee 9 - see above
Taylor 8 - doing well now
Hendrick 7 - continued his good form but what tf was he doing for that pen incident (-1)
Cork 7 - good but gave the ball away in a couple of key attacking moments
Westwood 8 - running the show
McNeil 8 - so much promise. Drives forward where others would go sideways or back (2nd goal)
Wood 8 - can’t argue with that performance
Barnes 8 - looked a threat and the partnership with Wood is bearing fruits at the moment

Great win. On the train back into Brighton I was reminded why I said last year that their fans were a set of entitled, disillusioned tossers. One guy was telling me how bad we were, that they deserved to win and had no concerns when I suggested they were sleepwalking towards the bottom 3, whereas he thinks we’re going down. Then proceeded to start chanting and dancing on the platform with a load of other losers. Not sure they really get it. Hope they go down. :P

Hard fought and not especially pretty, but we got the job done.

Hard fought and not especially pretty, but we got the job done.

Heaton - 8 - three or four excellent saves and generally an assured presence.

Bardsley - 7 - solid enough.

Taylor - 8 - thought he was given a tough examination and once again he came through with flying colours.

Tarks - 9 - he's been back at his best recently and he showed that form again today.

Mee - 9 - as Tarks, both centre backs were excellent.

Cork - 7 - he can be better in possession, particularly his passing, but did the ugly stuff well.

Westwood - 6 - did all the basics well enough but we probably need him to calm the game down a bit more at times.

Hendrick - 7 - got about the field to great effect and looks very comfortable in this wide role, even if he was fortunate not to give a penalty away.

McNeil - 7 - wonderful composure for the critical second goal, and almost created one in the first half, although he was a bit peripheral at times and Bong had a bit too much freedom to bomb forward down his flank.

Wood - 8 two goals; both well taken, even if he should have made the penalty redundant by taking advantage of an open goal for his hat trick.

Barnes - 7 - a bit lucky his failure to play the easy pass before the penalty didn't cost us, but a goal and assist is a good return in any game.

Tough place to go is Brighton, but in truth we restricted them to counter attacks and held chances after the frenetic opening, and whilst we showed relatively little ourselves as an attacking force, we were clinical enough when we got chances. The star of the show though was the resilience, will to win and command of the two centre backs, who were superb.

Still room for improvement - we are starting too many games slowly, and there was a period early in the second half when we completely lost control of the game - we need to improve our ball retention in those moments. In truth, we got the luck with the opening goal (slip) and third goal (pen not given at the other end) that has eluded us in recent weeks, but we've earned that by building up credit from successive excellent performances.

Still really tight down there but we're in a decent position - and all of a sudden our points tally and league position is as good as any Burnley fan has a right to expect at this point in the season.

Correct that Heaton gets top marks, (and he's made a massive difference), but I do wonder what the reaction would have been on here had Hart stayed on his line for Duffy's goal and we had drawn or lost the game?

He'd have got dogs abuse, just like if Tom had Conceeded 3 in 15 mins that started with him staying on his line....

You do know we won 3-1, and didn't lose or draw the game?

I marked him for keeping us in the game early on and some important stops at 1-0. If, iF it'd have been a clean sheet, I might have given a 10 ( don't think I've ever given a 10 )

Depends whether he would have stopped on his mind for the other 2 or 3 I suppose. Or whether he was beaten from a 25 yard shot to his left side again.

As for Duffys goal I don’t think that is a ball a keeper should be coming for - far too risky. Firstly you have a chance of your defenders winning it - like they did for most of the game and secondly you have a chance of their guy missing the target or saving it. As it happens it was an excellent header right in the corner....so good goal.
I don’t know of any keeper in the league who would come and try and collect that ball - possibly only Courtois or Pope last season

You rarely see the keeper successfully come for those angled balls, unless the keeper is about 6'8" tall.
