Daunting Task vs Spurs at home

Post by ClaretLoup » Fri Feb 22, 2019 12:03 pm

The stats don't look good for this one

1) Spurs have the best away record in the division 33 points.
2) They have beaten every side below Watford in the table, home and away
3) They have scored in every away game and in their last five away games they have scored two or more.
4) They have scored 30 goals away from home twice as many as Burnley have scored at home.

They score a lot of their goals between 15 - 45 minutes.

Rays of hope:

Watford beat them at home and they have conceded 13 on their travels, that is one per game.
Watford Everton and Wolves have all put two past them, problem is that with the last two is that Spurs scored 3 or more.

Any more glimmers ?

Yes, stats mean nothing!

The only stat that matters is the scoreline at the final whistle.

MATCH FACTS
Head-to-head

Burnley are winless in their last nine league and cup games against Tottenham.
The Clarets beat Spurs 4-2 on the final day of the 2009-10 season, but that is their only top-flight win against Tottenham in the past 44 years.
Spurs have kept clean sheets in each of their last three visits to Turf Moor.
This fixture could see Mike Dean become the first referee to show 100 red cards in the Premier League.
Burnley

Burnley are one of just two Premier League sides unbeaten in 2019.
They are undefeated in seven league games - only Manchester United are currently on a longer run, with nine matches.
It is Burnley's longest unbeaten sequence in the top flight since a nine-match streak in 1966.
Sean Dyche's side have taken just two points from the last 42 available in home matches against sides from the established top six.
They have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of those games, conceding 27 goals and scoring just six in return.
Ashley Barnes has scored in each of his last three Premier League games, including from the penalty spot in his last two appearances.
The Clarets have not lost a Premier League game in which Tom Heaton has played since August 2017 (against West Brom).
Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham have won all 16 of their Premier League games this season against sides currently outside the top eight.
They are chasing their 12th league away win - which would be their highest total in a single season since a similar tally in 1984-85.
Spurs have scored a league-high 12 Premier League goals from outside the penalty area this season, while Burnley have conceded a league-high 12 from that range.
They have lost their last two away games in all competitions: at Chelsea in the Carabao Cup and at Crystal Palace in the FA Cup.
Son Heung-min has scored eight goals in his last eight Premier League appearances, netting in each of his last three matches.

They are still light years behind Man City and don't look as good as Man U currently.

Remember 1978. Clarets scrapping for their lives near the bottom, Spurs 19 games undefeated and we beat them 2-1. Of course we can do it!

He's unavailable as he's on loan to Swindon.

I remember the general consensus when we went to United recently, with the form they were in and we were 2-0 up at the 86th minute.... :D

My thoughts exactly. Let's not get ahead of ourselves but be quietly confident.

What about the recent League/Carling Cup semi when we started 4-1 down at the Turf 21st Jan 2009 and after 90 mins it was 4-4 ( I went to both matches and at least two of their goals at Whit Hart Lane where a bit dodgy!) only to find that away goals don't count!! They scraped through in extra time.
Even Harry Redknapp said that the best team lost

Will be tough no doubt but we were a bit unlucky not to hold out for the point when we played them away and we're playing better than we were then now so hopefully we can get something out of the game.

Sadly, The Greatest died in 2016, so doubtful he'll be fit. UTC

Rather than hinder them, it looks like their lack of a home ground has made Spurs better on their travels. We'll still win, though.

I was going for 0-2 but after reading this it's obviously going to be 4-1 :?

They may not be Manchester City or in a run of form like Manchester United but Spurs have been a revelation under Pocchetino and have blown away the theory you need to spend, spend, spend.

Regardless of how the supporters feel, success in the modern game is a top 4 finish and they will achieve that comfortably.

This would do for me. An intimidating Tarks and Mee would be a bonus.

We will have to defend better than we did at Brighton if we want to get anything. We always look like we are going to concede a goal or two, and we are still having problems defending balls coming into the box.

I will go 0-2 Spurs. I obviously hope I am wrong, anything would be amazing
