Warksclaret I know it’s eveyones opinion and they are all different but I am genuinely intrigued how a) you rated Barnes better than Wood and b) how you rated his as an average performance

and most significantly c) why he gave Heaton 6.KlyBfc wrote:Warksclaret I know it’s eveyones opinion and they are all different but I am genuinely intrigued how a) you rated Barnes better than Wood and b) how you rated his as an average performance

Its marginal-just felt Barnes edged it as he put their defence under more pressure. Both it has to be said were below par and they did not click

Re: Liverpool v Burnley - Player Ratings
Heaton 4- at fault for first and what was he doing with poor kick out. His all round game is better than Hart but he cant afford mistakes like today.
Bardsley 6- usual rugged display and blocked and tackled ok.
Mee 6- steady
Tarkowski 6- just needs to keep it simple at times. Spraying balls about doesn't come off for him that much.
Taylor 8- unlucky on second after Hendrick cock up and third after Heatons.
Westwood 7- schemed around well enough
Cork 5- conspicuous in the engine room
Hendrick 4- not good in possession hesitated on second goal and didn't provide an attacking outlet. Second half think he touched ball once and lasted 75 minutes.
McNeil 8- not in game much in first half apart from one decent cross but second half got back to the player pre Newcastle. Some good deliveries.
Barnes 6- battled well enough but didn't get on to some crosses.
Wood 6- a bit like Barnes could have made it harder for liverpool on some decent deliveries.
Crouch n/a- hard to mark when coming on when 3-1 down did a couple of nice touches
Gudmondson n/a- like crouch regarding mark but he is more of an attacking threat than Hendrick and better finisher.
Vydra n/a what can you really do in 4 minutes, looked fragile when in possession of ball early but showed he can be a poaching threat in the box. Nice head down then pass for second.

Meaningful contribution in my ratings. I do it to differentiate between all round performance and individual moments. So Westwood’s goal took him from 6 to 7.Leisure wrote:Please can you explain the +1 and -1?

And presumably -1 was for Hendrick's mistake on their second. We were under pressure after the equaliser- just go long quickly rather than trying to pass the buck to Bardsley.SGr wrote:Meaningful contribution in my ratings. Re: Liverpool v Burnley - Player Ratings
Heaton was not at fault for any of the goals. If you watch replay, the first goal, he's fully outstretched and could only palm into the path of the defender rushing in, to what might have been an own goal.
Hendrick was responsible for the second, for not booting it up-field with his left foot, instead choosing his right foot to play his teammate into trouble.
For the third Liverpool goal the defender gets his toe to the ball first and just unfortunate timing that he got in Heaton's way and it fell to them.
The fourth goal, he could have brought him down with his arm, but then it would have been a penalty, 3-2 4th minute of in jury time and a possible sending off and a ban, he could only try with his feet and not a bad attempt, at 3-2 at that time, Burnley had to go for it, so I don't blame them for that goal.
Give them some credit.
My only gripe was Dyche not playing Gudmondson from the start.
Still... Toe-to-toe WITH SALAH et al, potential PL winners and Champion League finalists and even world club cup champions maybe and AT ANFIELD v. a team costing millions before over 50,000 mad scouses at them.
NOT BAD, BURNLEY!
OK a defeat, but they had a go. I've give them 7 all-round and 5 for Hendrick and 6 for Dyche.

So with this and Heaton and Hendrick given a rating of 6 you can only assume some people got on the ale early doors because it was an early kick offPstotto wrote:Heaton 3. You're blind, watch the replays.

Re: Liverpool v Burnley - Player Ratings
Heaton 3 (a pub performance, a simple low cross missed [inexpicable that some claim otherwise] and a simple kick straight to one of the world's most lethal players)
Bardsley 5 (stuck gamely to it and was given a hospital pass for their 2nd. Bad distribution)
Taylor 7 (he has gone from being done regularly to making successful desperate challenges. If he can progress further to composed challenges, great)
Mee 6 (I thought he did ok)
Tarkowski 5 (I bit desperate in recent games, not like him)
Cork 6 (did OK against their narrow system)
Westwood 6 (as Cork)
Hendrick 4 (offered nothing going forward and cost us the second goal)
McNeil 8 (fairly useless defensively but exposed the woeful Alexander-Arnold defence time and again, AA is someone I do not rate, very kind of the BBC to pick my tweet for their live reporting feed in commenting on this)
Barnes 7 (more of a nuisance than before against Van Dyke)
Wood 7 (again, caused some problems against a top class defender)
Subs 0 (not on long enough, Dycheball resumed after his Tottenham sabbatical, crazy to delay, lo and behold, both combined to score)
I actually think we did OK today. We limited them to minor chances apart from the goals and harried them throughout which led to two, and the chance of more. The sickening thing was that we were ahead and they created very little throughout, we could have won if we had chosen to believe that a Sunday 12pm kick off did not mean defending like a Sunday pub team.
We have taken to dallying on the ball again (Hendrick goal 2) and we need to regain the ethos of row z. I'm a little more confident than earlier in the season because that defending was calamitous and desparate, this defending is more like the occasional lazy piece of play. Ben in particular is much improved (though he could hardly have got worse).
I love Tom, he epitomises us well, but I also love winners and the achilles heel of Burnley fans is to resent a winner, hence why I think Hart was never given the respect he deserved as a 70+ England cap and 4x PL Golden Glove winner at an age younger than Tom. Hart was dropped for far less, it was the team in front of him more than his own performances, and I do feel that justice would be that Joe should have another go. His heroics got us that win at Cardiff that may prove pivotal and while Tom deserved a go, Joe now deserves to be let back in, or it says to the squad it is one rule for one, and one rule for another - disastrous for a club like us. Dyche's big test now awaits.

from BBC website:Pstotto wrote:Heaton was not at fault for any of the goals
Two of Liverpool's goals came from Heaton mistakes, with the goalkeeper hoping to be named in Gareth Southgate's England squad on Wednesday for the European Championship qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Montenegro.

Re: Liverpool v Burnley - Player Ratings
Heaton 5 disagree with other posters on first goal, if you dive across to intercept the ball then you've got to get meaningful contact or leave it. In the end he got in Tark's way.
Bardsley 6 apart from his mad gallop to rectify his own poor pass in full time was steady enough.
Tarkowski 5 been poor for a few weeks and his distribution is often putting us on the back foot right now, can play far much better than today. Doesn't look like the centre back who played for England.
Mee 6 usual dependable display on the whole from Ben, nowt outstanding nowt particularly poor.
Taylor 8 MOM for a long time I believed he wasn't up to the standard required, I stand corrected, he just needs some luck because some of his blocks and tackles were outstanding today.
Cork 4 really struggling to think of any contribution he made today, to be honest. Lightweight and if he was Hendrick he'd be getting pelters.
Westwood 7 the one man glue in our centre midfield right now, fortunate goal but he beat the first man at a corner.
Hendrick 5 poor poor decision to stand the ball up for Bardsley to clear and therefore allowing Lallana to get the block in that directly led to their second goal. Genuinely feel sorry for Jeff but please play players in positions they are most comfortable in.
McNeil 8 such a hard decision between Dwight and Taylor for MOM for me, not totally at his best but the driving force being everything positive in the final third.
Barnes and Wood both 6 not much difference in either of them today, if we would have kept the ball away from the impressive VVD more who knows. Can't fault their efforts though.
SUBS
Crouch 6 little chance to make an impact, but some good touches and flicks
JBG 6 goal aside took sometime to get into the game
Vydra 7 was knocked off the ball a little too easy but that assist for JBG goal was excellent. Would like to see more of him.
I can't pretend we deserved more today than we got but ultimately it's disappointing that all the goals conceded were of our own making and I don't remember many saves Tom was actually asked to make.
I can't remember many mistakes Tom has made in his fantastic time at Burnley, so I'm in no doubt he will bounce back will our captain fantastic.

So BBC is wrong, BT sport is wrong, Sky is wrong and most importantly the majority of people at the game and on here who can see are wrong. And you are right. Love Heaton but a bad day for him today - these things happen so he'll move on quickly to Leicester game.Pstotto wrote:Claretblue, YOU SUCKER. Oh it's on the BBC website, therefore it's right.

Re: Liverpool v Burnley - Player Ratings
23 attempts / nearly 70% possession and we were forced into numerous great last ditch challenges.
4 goals and missed an open net.
I wish we’d create that little every week !
As for bringing Hart back and dropping Tom after one bad game that’s even sillier. Even if he carries on playing like he did today Nick Pope every time for me before Hart.

Re: Liverpool v Burnley - Player Ratings
Heaton 4 questionable for at least 2 of the goals, luckily the honesty of the striker for the 2nd consecutive game stops him giving away a pen
Taylor 9 excellent, 2 great goal saving tackles only for them to fall into the strikers path to score.
Mee 6
Tarks 6
Bardley 7
Cork 6
Hendrick 5 could have done better with their 2nd dilly dallying, created didly squat. Any atrack8ng play came down our left, making it way to easy to defend.
Westwood 6
McNeil 7 positive, sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't.
Barnes 6
Wood 5 absolutely anonymous, offered zero.

Well observed, taio. Now go and watch the replays and well-observe those and then let's read your descriptions in detail, referencing mine if you want.
Depechedingle, Tarkowski was running into the goal in the same direction as Salah, if he was coming from the line at Salah then that would have been different.
Looks like Forensic Architecture will have to be called in, from Goldsmiths.

Poor politics, Woking. SD hasn't had time to examine the footage and the comment doesn't say what errors for what goal. Over to you, for your descriptions.

if Heaton hadn't gone for the ball Tarks would have had a clearer chance to defend the ball, that is what I meant by getting in Tarks way. Just my opinion that's all.

Re: Liverpool v Burnley - Player Ratings
Not one to moan and groan, but after that show against an off form Liverpool team who can bag 4 soft goals changes have to be made,
I won,t say anything about Heatons performance, that speaks for itself, but Cork and Hendrick have to go, both pathetic today ( again. )
In fact we were playing well in the second half until Toms cock up, Taylor and McNeil the best from for me.
