Re: Sport.cz - Vydra frustrated at strange excuses from Dyche
Okay, so thats three new strikers we need in the next window. A new bloke, a replacement for Vokes and now Vydra.
Any advance on three?
I couldn't care less if he doesn't feel like wearing an ear to ear grin every day in training. Managing a team means taking into account that people relate to the world differently. As long as the way they relate to the world isn't perverse or destructive then it shouldn't be a problem. Expecting everyone to conform to an identical cookie cutter profile is very unrealistic. Getting the best out of people is all about recognising their differences and tailoring your approach to them.
I'm not sure what I think about Vydra making his discontent public, but I would be inclined to extend him some leeway.
Not getting game time is difficult enough, but when you see a new bloke come into the squad and everything seems to be focussed on giving him the chance to shine it must be very disheartening. Especially when the weather and recent games have favoured what Vydra can bring to our play, like wearing down Leicester with movement and playing on the deck when the weather is working firmly against "cross it to the tall blokes".
I still think playing to the strengths of Crouch have cost us in the past few games. Nothing against him, but it is horses for courses. A fine sunny day and its time to bring on the tall bloke, but faced with a slippy rain soaked ball and swirling wind and you pull out the industrious ball player who will get in and amongst it.
With Hendrick on the right, cutting into midfield and generally buzzying himself about, and Vydra up front we would have worn Leicester down quickly. We brought Vydra in to "do the balloon" and it was the perfect game for it. The only thing a tall target man will do in conditions like that is get wet earlier than the other players. I'm still not entirely sure what "do the balloon" means, but it has to be better than what we did before he came on in the last match.
I'm slightly irritated by all of the bemused what is going wrong at the moment speculation. When you look at the games we played well in and the recent games we have played poorly in (or the halves) the common denominator is Hendrick not playing on the right, boosting our midfield. We had the perfect player for the job and we had the perfect weather to get the most out of it, but we tweaked what wasn't broken.
Sods law, it will be a heatwave after we come back from the break. Whether it is or not if we don't shore up Cork and Westwood with Hendrick against the midfield of Wolves we will probably get taken to the cleaners again.

I agree it’s absolutely mind boggling, could he be a Garlick signing and he’s not playing him because he didn’t get Jay Rod and Vydra is the compromise signing, weirdest signing ever, frustrating thing is he’s always been a good player, even at Watford years ago.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Defour played 24 games in his first season. 25 in the second.
Dyche simply doesnt rate, didnt sign or doesnt like (or all 3) vydra.

Re: Sport.cz - Vydra frustrated at strange excuses from Dyche
I really hope he plays and has a stormer, it's beginning to **** me off.
Our best performance this season, imo was the 4-0 against Bournemouth (Spurs @ home close second).
We were zipping the ball out and had great movement with Vydra being a large part of that.
OK next game away at Cardiff he played poorly but dropped immediately after? How many games have Wood/Barnes played this year and played woefully?
I hope he has a blinder and scores against England on Friday

Guy has had to wait until getting back to the Czech camp before letting his frustration unfold via the press. Says a lot about the media control at Burnley. Despite translation differences, a good honest interview which, given the current difficulties, does not shine a positive light in his situation.

Re: Sport.cz - Vydra frustrated at strange excuses from Dyche
Vydra has started one home league game. He scored.
He played 1 minute against Leicester. Nearly scored.
He played 4 minutes against Liverpool. Got an assist.
274 minutes all season, mainly away, when his strengths are to stretch a packed defence when we play at home.
My take on the interview is that he was inexplicably dropped, got a bit surly, and was told to lighten up.
Got to say, I’m sympathising with him. He has too much pace and talent for Dyche. I understand Barnes and Wood starting when on form, but not Vydra coming on when the game has gone instead of on 60-70 minutes.

Has a journalist bothered to ask Dyche face to face in a pre or post match interview why Vydra doesn’t get on more often than he does?

He'll start against Wolves - Vydra, not Dyche.

Dyche probably told him to play with a chuckle in his boots and didn't know what the hell he was talking about.

Not sure he actually played that badly at Cardiff. And we won. Back to back too. Is that the one of only two time this season?CoolClaret wrote:I really hope he plays and has a stormer, it's beginning to **** me off.

Re: Sport.cz - Vydra frustrated at strange excuses from Dyche
The worrying thing is - it possibly isn't the weirdest signing ever.Giftonsnoidea wrote:I agree it’s absolutely mind boggling, could he be a Garlick signing and he’s not playing him because he didn’t get Jay Rod and Vydra is the compromise signing, weirdest signing ever, frustrating thing is he’s always been a good player, even at Watford years ago.
Under Dyche we have signed:
Wells 5m
Walters 3m
Juke - 1.5m
Sordell - 600k
Vossen - 3m
Hennings - 2.25m
Vydra - 8m
Crouch - free
That's 8 strikers. Just shy of £25m in fees. Never mind wages and signing on fees and other costs.
Between them they have 2 TWO league goals. Between 8 EIGHT strikers. Only one of them goals was at this level (Vydra) and the other was in the championship (Hennings). That really is shocking. Every manager is entitled to bad signings. And of course Dyche in the main has done a great job here.
But for a so called frugal club, who operate with an apparent small budget that is abysmal. And most of them most fans could see coming!!!! Wells was the most disastrous of the lot. 5m for a soon to be out of contract player at a rival club who didn't want him, never played at this level and was injured!!!! Madness. Utter madness.
Possibly more alarming is that since Burnley, those that have left (wells, juke, sordell, vossen, hennings) have scored EXACTLY 100 goals between them since leaving us.
Even Bamford has scored 20 goals since his spell with us!!!

Re: Sport.cz - Vydra frustrated at strange excuses from Dyche
I think Dyche may well be forced into
giving Vydra a start or certainly much more time on the pitch.
Especially if both Barnes and Wood don't do much
against Wolves.
If one of them scores and/or both play reasonably well
and we get the three points then Dyche will start with them against Bournemouth.
And the most Vydra can hope is a 10 min cameo.
Unless he comes on against Wolves; changes the game, plays well
and scores the winning goal in the last minute.
We need to win games and hopefully get at least two, if not three points from our next two games
otherwise we could be facing Cardiff knowing we have to score and win.
A dilemma for Dyche.
At present it seems as if he prefers bringing on Crouch.
But I'm not sure that option will pay off and he's only got Vydra left.
I suppose a win against Wolves will resolve most concerns
and a point at Bournemouth and then beat Cardiff and we're safe
and don't need to worry about our last four tough fixtures.

But CFC you omit the fact that spotting a goal scorer at this level is probably the hardest position to fill.

Vydra would allow us to change the way we attack teams and last Saturday was absolutely crying out for it, but still he got a few lousy minutes at the end (in which he almost equalised!!). No wonder he's peed off.

Re: Sport.cz - Vydra frustrated at strange excuses from Dyche
I'm not sure he HAS done enough personally. he was rancid away at West ham when he started, missed a sitter away to City in the cup and has often looked short of pace, strength and decision-making in his cameos. Even on Saturday his last minute chance needed a dink rather than just hitting it at Schmeichel low down.
4 games ago Barnes and Wood were being praised to the skies with only Ageurro having scored more in 2019. They've been poor since but I'm not at all sure Vydra is the answer. How often does it come about that a player not being picked comes to be regarded as having tremendous ability...sometimes they are not being picked because they aren't good enough to be picked.

If he was playing regular fair enough. But with the limited time he is getting he is under even more pressure than anyone else.Stalbansclaret wrote:I'm not sure he HAS done enough personally. he was rancid away at West ham when he started, missed a sitter away to City in the cup and has often looked short of pace, strength and decision-making in his cameos. Morgan is one of if not the best defender in the league aerially. But one of the most immobile and limited on the deck.
As it happened he was already in the pitch after the red. Yet we saw lumping it to two big men wasnt working so instead of changing the style we went even bigger. To someone even slower than Morgan!!
Incredible.

There are no free lunches.
Re: Sport.cz - Vydra frustrated at strange excuses from Dyche
Vydra was obviously signed by Sean to deliver his Plan B in games where we were misfiring up front. Unfortunately Sean doesn’t have a Plan B, ever, it’s always maintain Plan A - kick the ball longer + higher. Vydra could have a long wait. Which is absolutely criminal following recent showings from Messrs Barnes, Wood + Podcast Pete.

Im not convinced there isnt more to this.
Have Hennings and Vydra ever been in the same room together?
Both have scored plenty elsewhere. But not here. Somets not right.

Re: Sport.cz - Vydra frustrated at strange excuses from Dyche
On Saturday the game was crying out for Wood to be brought off and Vydra on to speed up in the final third...not be offside every two minutes and actually provide a bit of movement for McNeil and JBG , it was painful to watch just how clueless we were in attack, relying on McNeil to unlock Leicester on his own at times.
I’m concerned that we will be relegated after that performance , one massive reason I want us to stay up above many other is that I’d love to see McNeil play a full season in the Premier League for Burnley before he inevitably moves on, because that lad can really play

Yeah that and the recent 8 game undefeated streak!cricketfieldclarets wrote:Not sure he actually played that badly at Cardiff. And we won. Back to back too. Is that the one of only two time this season?

[quote="cricketfieldclarets"]The worrying thing is - it possibly isn't the weirdest signing ever.
Even Bamford has scored 20 goals since his spell with us!
I think the clear lesson is that, with strikers particularly, you can’t do it on the cheap!

Dyche always bangs on about honesty so he would be contradicting himselfFunkydrummer wrote:There will be disciplinary issues after this I would think.
Pee'd on his chips well and truly I would imagine, not that it will impede his progress here !!!!

I agree with that, but honesty privately within the club surely, not putting it in the national paper of a country that you don't play in - even if it is your own country. Not a wise move in my opinion.Vegas Claret wrote:Dyche always bangs on about honesty so he would be contradicting himself

maybe, but IF he's had those conversations with Dyche and still only gets 2 mins at best I don't blame him one jot - the lads career is the most important thing not Dyche's egoFunkydrummer wrote:I agree with that, but honesty privately within the club surely, not putting it in the national paper of a country that you don't play in - even if it is your own country. It reminds me of that Simpsons episode where Mr Burns owns the Springfield Atoms baseball team and keeps telling the one player to shave his side burns, even though he has no side burns. In the end the guy shaves most of his head and Mr Burns shouts at him that he still hasn't shaved his side burns.

Seans Achilles has been use of subs apart from a couple of a occasions hes got his timing completely wrong and when the players on the pitch are playing poorly eg Wood and Barnes v Leicester,he dithers and gives the subs too little time on the pitch to make a difference.
Matt has created 2 goals when on for his 3 mins and almost knicked an equaliser bringing a smart save from the keeper to deny him

I'm sure you know what I meandandeclaret wrote:And Gudmundsson...... but apart from those who have been good enough to get in the first xi, why hasn’t he picked more foreigners who aren’t as good as what we have..... beats me

He also scored within about 5 minutes of coming on against Olympiakos on the Turf, after Barnes and Vokes had spent the previous 70 minutes looking like they couldn't hit a barn door.
