I wouldn’t go as far as outstanding. He’s been decent. Considering he doesn’t get a game for his club it has been a good debut, but not outstanding.joey13 wrote:Why ? The lads been outstanding
And I don’t need the commentator to big up every average thing he does as something special.

Kane is useless, he's not been able to get offside once - not once !!!
Needs to speak to Wood, he's got it off to a fine art now.

I take it you not watching his movement off the ball , something England’s been crying out for , for years , he’s been outstandingRileybobs wrote:I wouldn’t go as far as outstanding. He’s been decent. Considering he doesn’t get a game for his club it has been a good debut, but not outstanding.

He’s given the ball away, a lot. Caught out of position defensively on a few occasions. He’s been decent. If you think he’s been outstanding I’d question how low you’re setting the bar.joey13 wrote:I take it you not watching his movement off the ball , something England’s been crying out for , for years , he’s been outstanding

Remember the dross served up by Hodgson and Allardyce
Re: England
Still wasn’t convinced by Southgate, even after the World Cup, but this is really impressive.

Re: England
There is some middle ground between the performances some of the players turned out during Hodgson’s tenure and outstanding. And Allardyce only took charge for one game.joey13 wrote:I’m taking it you know little about football suggesting he’s been other than outstanding along with a few others

If you think Hudson-Odoi has been outstanding that’s fine, I don’t. He’s probably been slightly above average and considering it’s his debut I’d stretch as far as good. But definitely not outstanding.

Going forward they look impressive. Defending is very poor at times though.BurnleyFC wrote:Still wasn’t convinced by Southgate, even after the World Cup, but this is really impressive.
They'll have to do a lot better against more accomplished sides next summer.

He may not have set the world alight for England (he's still only 22) but you can't really argue against his Premier League stats for a midfielder.expoultryboy wrote:Still think alli is overrated

Re: England
Well done again!
All of a sudden, England seem to have loads of top-end young players.
You'd think they can only get better.
Things really are looking good.

Re: England
We certainly look good going forward and you can't argue with ten goals in two games. However, it will be interesting to see how we perform against better attacking teams, who retain the ball, like Spain etc. I'm not sure if that back four/five is competent enough.

Re: England
Walker is our best defensive RB but he had no help from C H-O and should have played his position more. We had enough forwards bombing on we needed him at the back.Rileybobs wrote:And Walker is almost as poor defensively.

Re: England
I like Southgate, he picks youngsters and doesn't seem to have 'favourites'. We are playing attacking stuff and certainly look great going forward. We had a decent World Cup and if this is anything to go by then we could have a good Euros. It's early days but the way things are shaping up Southgate could possibly wind up being one of the best managers we've ever had (and he's still young himself). Playing a player that hasn't even played a league game shows that he is willing to take risks and that is just what we need (and it seems to have paid off). Southgate is definitely the mand for the job.

Re: England
I don't think Hudson-Odoi was outstanding. He looked pretty average on the right (didn't try to take his man on enough), and then had a good run at the defence which led to the goal when he was switched over. He had a decent game though, but wouldn't surprise me if he moved back to the under 21s for a while.

Re: England
Under Southgate is the best England have played since before Italia 90 - as I don't remember the World Cup in 86. We didn't play well enroute to the semi-finals in 1990, so I'd say it's the best we've been since at least 1986. So at least 32-33 years. It's been a while waiting!CBT wrote:Lets be honest

It was the first footie tournament i remember vividly. I was obviously gutted that Scotland went out on goal difference (because of you ***** letting the Dutch have a goal) but i was genuinely gutted for England too. That extra time v Germany is probably the most exciting 30 minutes of football I've ever seen.

Re: England
Yeah! on home soil though, and Euro 96 had some stinkers, the Switzerland and Scotland games weren't great if Scotland had scored that penalty,it could have been squeaky bum time against the Dutch, the Spanish game was a backs to the wall exercise, and Seaman produced a masterclass in the shoot-out,England played well in the SF and should have progressed but for missed chances.taio wrote:Euro 96 was ace.
Euro 96 in hindsight was the one that got away, ditto Russia 2018,the signs are promising under GS,i thought last night could be tricky especially when they opened the scoring but what an emphatic response.
P.S i hope the book is thrown at Montenegro regarding the racial abuse.
Re: England
As has been said, it's just a shame we don't have defenders as good as the likes of John Terry, Rio Ferdinand & Ashley Cole.
Then we really would be one of the favourites to win the Euro's and the World Cup.
