Instead of buying Starbucks I just make my own coffee, shout out my name incorrectly and then burn a £5 note.

Had this convo with my sister last week when she was deciding on a gift for a teacher leaving from her daughters school

dont know what the fascination of going to a shop to buy a specialty hot drink is. A prick at work cant go a day without turning up with a branded starbucks cup every morning

As a work benefit I get 1 free drink from Starbucks per week.

Really helpful when you work in Nelson and live in Burnley.

Little Barista beats Starbucks hands down.Run by a lovely local couple and it is first class. You are made to feel really special when you go in and the staff even smile....i know it is a lost art in retail these days but it is a joy to go in.
Plus...you buy 5 and you get one free, I say you buy 5 and you get one free.

Can’t drink coffee from any of these “coffee houses” but fair play to them their hot chocolate is outstanding.

The Easy Coffee in Burnley is as good as any of the bigger brands and a lot cheaper (while still being much more expensive than a spoonful of Nescafé!)

Bloody awful and expensive is Starbucks. I much prefer the independent coffee shops that frequent our high streets these days than the over priced blands, such as Starbucks and Costa

Little Barista is very expensive compared to the others nearby that the coffee is bitter tasting. By a long way the worst in the area and should be avoided if you have tastebuds!

As another poster states, Easy Coffee is about the best and probably the cheapest

I don't frequent Starbucks but it is creating jobs and if it means that some people who are desperate for work get work then it can only be positive news for burnley.

Genuinely surprised that Burnley town centre “ adds up” in the numbers for this most hideous of the “ modern” corporate coffee “ big beasts”.Though the rather depressing looking Costa in Burnley always seems busy .
Not a huge coffee drinker but I only go in a SB if truly desperate . The last being couple of yrs back and the guy ( seriously ) asks me my name after I’d ordered ! Now ,I know these places are frequented by a heady mix of students, fashionistas, homosexuals, housewives and mad old women but I’m thinking “ wtf would he want my name for ?” Then he points to his c0ck ( I’m kidding ) to a paper cup and writes my name on it . Im then stood around like an utter tool as the staff start shouting random names into the heaving mass as people collect their milky sludge . Eventually as I started to lose the will to live I just nodded as a few came out, grabbed the nearest cup and stealthily made haste , while all the time expecting to be accosted by a pencil thin snake hipped angry man in orange trousers. The mystery drink turned out to be some kind of sickly mocha which I left close to a tramp at Victoria station in manc .

Costa is the worse. Almost all costas are a **** hole. God knows how and why.

Rhode island best in burnley imo.

I dont think anyone these days really drinks old school Nescafé do they ? Whereas freshly brewed tea leaves has a small but noticeable edge on good tea bags , fresh coffee literally obliterates instant .Though perhaps high end instant is closer ?

I'm not a massive fan of coffee. I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to pay Starbucks rates for a cup of it anyway, but my mrs loves it. Now and again I'll pick her up a Starbucks on my way home from wherever I'm working, and despite it being lukewarm by the time I get there, she's always really pleased with it.
She on the other hand wouldn't pay the over inflated rates that I pay for craft beers on the odd occasion that I fancy a few at home.
Different strokes for different folks I suppose, but I dont understand why some people are so partisan about it either way

Why is it suddenly trendy for everyone to be ‘in’ to coffee. And gin. It was like when every mug used to walk round with an Evian bottle as though some fit bird was going to suck you off because you’d bought a stupid drink. Just shows how easy life is for marketing people.

Starbucks? Wait until a Tim Hortons sets up in your neighbourhood. Then you'll have the real coffee takeout experience.

Has it ever occurred to you that people drink gin and coffee because they like the taste? Just because you might not like either doesn’t mean that others drink them to look ‘trendy’.

Both products are marketed more than they were in the past and as a result there are more varieties widely available. A similar thing happened with cider fairly recently. I’ve never seen someone drinking cider and thought they are trying to look trendy.

It’s weird how people seem threatened by things they don’t like but others do.

As a tea drinker the worst thing is going into a coffee shop and paying £2 for a 1p teabag such as Tetleys, hot water and about 10 seconds service. Biggest markup in retailing. But sometimes I’m desperate for a caffeine shot. I try to only ever go into a Starbucks or an independant shop that does full leaf tea, or, at worst, decent tea bags like the ones they have in Rhode Island.

Missus drinks Evian because she prefers the bottles

She will refill it with any other cheaper bottled water though a few times before binning it and grabbing another bottle of Evian.

I was drinking Gin when it was thought of as an old woman's drink. But just the slightest smell of coffee makes me want to spew.

A lot of the coffee shops in Burnley have had good trade off the EU citizens that work and live here. It's their social meeting place and they do love their coffee.

Not craft stuff but a bit of a way for you to work through and see how you get on and what your thoughts are.
There will no doubt be a list dedicated to solely craft beers.

Probably because it's the best fcuking drink you'll have all day until it's beer o clock.

But as Cricketfield said, it's been "in" for centuries.

I'm not an expert either sorry mate.
I tend to wander into the supermarket and try something new whenever I'm having a few at home.
I like the brewdog stuff. Punk IPA and dead pony club
Vocation brewery (made in hebden bridge I think) pride and joy and life and death are a couple I tend to buy more often than most.
I like Brooklyn lager
Samuel Adam's Boston lager
And the pistonhead stuff
I tend to gravitate to the IPA's
I think theres been a few threads on here with some good recommendations from people with far more knowledge than I possess

Exactly how I would rank it! The Costa machines in the petrol stations are awful, I can just about force a hot chocolate down at 5:30am if it’s freezing and I’ve a long drive

Probably have 1-2 cups of decaf a day and then drink water unless it’s a Saturday or Sunday when the Water is replaced by beer.

I’ve drank Gin for a good 15 years, mainly because I’m not a huge fan of the other spirits. The mrs hated it but since they’ve turned them into a sort of cocktail, loves them. Same with fruity ciders, I’m the opposite and like everything plain.

Would love that to happen. Proper coffee with proper service - oh! wait, we are in England, so it would be proper coffee out of stock and crap service.
