Re: Bolton
It would be better if sanctions could be taken against the EFL for having a weak fit and proper test. The whole Anderson / Holdsworth / blu marble / sports shield stunk like a two day old turd when they were allowed to buy Bolton. Anderson was a banned director with a track record, this saga is also the fault of the EFL.Goobs wrote:We either they are going to have a fixture backlog or the EFL will have to take sanctions against them if they can't fulfill their fixtures by the end of the season.

Re: Bolton
If you read the post I quoted then it suggests that they can't as they aren't allowed to play games behind closed doors unless it is as a result of an EFL sanction which this would not be.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:They can fulfill them, just not allowed fans in, so in theory there shouldn't be any backlog.
IF that is correct then the games would not be able to go ahead and there would be a backlog or failure to fulfill. I don't know but was speculating on another post which may or may not be correct.
Time will tell I guess (unless someone can prove it either way)

I guess they'll get 'consent from the League' then, Chester, and get out of it as the alternative (for the League) might well be that they don't fulfil their fixtures which would be a worse outcome (at least for the League), I guess

If they are to be wound up i suspect the league will prefer they finish the season to save bigger problems if removing them affects promotion to the premier league or relegation from the championship. Hence dragging it out.
As it happens they wont be wound up imo.

We now know what Ken Anderson mean't yesterday when he said that the go ahead of this weekend's match was down to the players - he has paid staff so the ground can open but not the players - who had returned to training this morning to be greeted with the news, Blackmail by any other name

Apparently the players were booed off yesterday.
You can understand the frustrations of the crowd, but it's pretty classless to boo players who haven't been paid, (IMO).

Re: Bolton
So Anderson held the gun to both the EFL and the players and won- he has effectively taken future revenue from any new owner to pay his debt - just how does he continue to get away with it
if the EFL (and the Premier League) have a golden share in each of their member clubs, and if this is the practice they are going to take (they have previously refused for clubs such as Accrington Stanley) then why not just oust the owner bring in an independent to run the club on their behalf until a buyer takes over and then if profits from sale are left over pass on to previous shareholder(s), and then ban the Anderson's of this world for life. That is effectively what the American sports would do

Don't do that and it would cause a real **** storm and various legal battles if Leeds were to lose 6 points and miss out on promotion by even one point.
Equally at the bottom of the table. Think it would send Wigan down.
Also at least there are still 11 players (plus) earning (albeit not getting paid properly) a living and being in the shop window.

Re: Bolton
I think so close to the end of the season, it makes sense for the EFL to help out and TRY to get all fixtures played, BUT it does set a (very expensive!) precedent which might come back to bite them in the bum if other clubs start threatening to go under in the future.

I’d be happy for them to fold at the end of the season. Hell, I’d be happy for them to fold right now if it threw a spanner in Leeds’ works.
Any fraternity I felt with Bolton Wanderers’ Fans ended in the Winter/Spring of 2010. This has been in the post for 9 years. I’m glad it’s finally being delivered.

If the players aren't training or being paid then you may as well just award every side they are facing until the close of the season the three points now.

Whatever happens some teams will lose and some will gain, but they shouldn't be kept going "artificially" just so that they complete their fixtures. The precedent has always been that all the fixtures are wiped out, and if you're a loser then it's just tough (unfortunately).
There was a different failed precedent in the mid- 60s when midway through the season the League decided to relegate Peterborough Utd at the end of the season, with the consequence that they just stopped trying. To be fair what they should have done was to say - if you get relegated you'll go down 2 divisions. This would have ensured the integrity of the competition.
(Just checked it was 1967 -8. It was for making illegal payments. They were 4th in the table having played 19 games at the time, but ended up 24th)

Why don't they loan Accy Stanley a million quid to get a state of the art pitch so all games get played on time?

The present one is quite new but they're going to spend around 200k, ours was going towards £1m. Just like our training pitches.

From what I am aware they got a 250 year lease at "nominal" rent for a stadium worth about £110 million* - paid for by you and me (amongst others) along with Manchester council - and have invested about £60 million on local re-generation. So not a bad deal so far.
(*For clarity, they spent about £20 million converting it for football)
