A338 to Bournemouth
A338 to Bournemouth
There are roadworks on the dual carriageway before the Cooper Dean roundabout, starting by the Christchurch/Airport turn. Add time....up to 30 mins!

The term ‘roadworks’ is an extreme understatement. You could be stuck there for an hour and, if you try to be clever and take an alternate route, it will take you even longer.

Re: A338 to Bournemouth
Took me 5hr 10 min from leaving Rossendale to arrive in Bournemouth. Stopped for 35min. I avoided the A338 and hit the sat nav, it took me through the new forest towards Lymington on the solent, and then headed west to Christchurch, then on to Boscombe

Don't try taking A35 off the M27. Being Easter you will be stuck in a queue at Lyndhurst for ages. Going into Bournemouth from the east on Saturday is grim. A338 is a no go zone. Best off getting the train to Pokesdown and walk.

Re: A338 to Bournemouth
Spot on, driving around the Bournemouth area was always a congested bind in previous years so if there are road works and hold ups I agree with NFC, stop and park up near a selected train station and let the train take the strain as was said.NewForestClaret wrote:Don't try taking A35 off the M27. Re: A338 to Bournemouth
I didn't drive through Lyndhurst. I took a route through the New Forest which brought me out West of Lyndhurst, on the Christchurch road. I then drove around Christchurch to Boscombe. Took about 25 minutes and I was doing a steady 75mph at one point on the opposite side of the road.NewForestClaret wrote:Don't try taking A35 off the M27. So the moral of the story is if you speed and drive on the wrong side of the road you'll get their quicker. Provided you don't dieTop Claret wrote:I didn't drive through Lyndhurst. There most certainly are.Leisure wrote:Anyone know if there are hold-ups this morning?
Re: A338 to Bournemouth
You can come off at ringwood, and it is a straight road to Christchurch, then along barrack road following Bournemouth and boscombe, where you can walk to the ground at kings park. Alternatively catch a train from Christchurch to pokesdown , which is one stop away, and walk from there about 10 to 15 mins. There are still roadworks on the A338 where they are widening the road, you could get held up their for 30 mins, or so.
Re: A338 to Bournemouth
That is walk from Boscombe, not Bournemouth.
Re: A338 to Bournemouth
Yes.... frigging nightmare yesterday when we hit them at 2pm stuck in them for 45 mins.Leisure wrote:Anyone know if there are hold-ups this morning?

Best drive down to the south coast ever. The smart motor way is now open north of Stoke and I went down the toll. The A34 and M3 very quite and like I say I avoided the A338.

Must have been breaking the speed limit pretty much all the way, especially if you went through the Forest or around Lymington. We get a lot of dead ponies and cows with people ignoring the speed limits.Top Claret wrote:Left the main Southampton to Bournemouth Road at 1.45 and arrived in Boscombe 2.05pm, we saw little traffic

Re: A338 to Bournemouth
That is generally pretty clogged too on a Saturday. It has been a nightmare down here since the roadworks began. I still think if you are coming down from the north you are better off driving somewhere out of town and getting the train.Claretbum wrote:You can come off at ringwood, and it is a straight road to Christchurch, then along barrack road following Bournemouth and boscombe, where you can walk to the ground at kings park. Re: A338 to Bournemouth
Trains are disrupted.
All trains terminating at Winchester.
Replacement bus service to Eastleigh.
At Eastleigh get back on a train to Bournemouth.
- add on about 40 minutes to normal journey.

Re: A338 to Bournemouth
Pain free trip but I was travelling from Cardiff. Avoided the roadworks.

Bit difficult with 50 of us on the bus!NewForestClaret wrote:That is generally pretty clogged too on a Saturday. It has been a nightmare down here since the roadworks began. I still think if you are coming down from the north you are better off driving somewhere out of town and getting the train.
Re: A338 to Bournemouth
I got here at 1.50pm and it added about 35 mins. Assume longer, as it gets nearer KO.

Re: A338 to Bournemouth
Google maps detoured us through the New Forest and we joined the roadworks right at the end. No added time, 90 mins from Heathrow.
