Charlie Taylor

Post by jdrobbo » Sat Apr 13, 2019 5:06 pm

I’ll keep banging the Charlie Taylor drum, if I may? Another brilliant performance from the blonde bombshell wearing number three.

His reading of the game, calm distribution, link-up play with McNeil and most importantly, superb, last-ditch blocks, were fantastic.

It was a horrible game to watch - very attritional at times - and we needed players to stand up. Taylor certainly did that.

Another player who stock continues to rise!

Well played Charlie .

Absolutely outstanding again

England are really strong in the left back area but I can see a call coming for Charlie if he keeps playing like he has.

It took him a couple of months to settle. I wasn't impressed at all but fair play to him he just keeps improving and has that shirt for a few years now.

Outstanding, again.

Pre Christmas I didn’t think he was anywhere near the level needed for this league, now I think bar Chilwell I wouldn’t swap him for a left back outside the top 6. Absolutely fantastic. We need to extend his contract this summer.

He's been superb of late.

I wasn't sure about him at first. I was wrong.

Several posters on here suggested Taylor be signed.

I would think Hibs has either shot himself or has a new sign-in name or has just disappeared on purpose like. How wrong he got it and how right SD got it signing Taylor.

He has got better because he has got games under his belt, has got Ben Mee alongside him playimg better, has got Tom back in goal and has the incredible McNeil in front of him. .

Taylor’s improved exponentially 2nd half of the season, particularly his ball control. He links up with McNeil as if they’ve been playing together for years.

I was out for my nephew's 10th birthday so I watched about 60 minutes of the game on mobile.

The Taylor tackle did look like a penalty, especially after watching it again. It didn't look to me from the angle, that he won the ball.

He's really grown into this league and into our left back position and as an aside I thought today Gunnarson pushed him before falling over his outstretched leg as he fell over, which wasn't really Taylor's fault so no pen there for me.

Has to be said that Taylor has come on massively this season, huge amounts tbh and today he was outstanding, very rarely wastes the ball anymore too. Shows far more composure than he did 6 months ago. For me he is the model I'd like us to follow going forward, younger, hungry players with huge potential. I don't think Dyche has got a defensive signing wrong so far.

I must admit I wasn’t convinced 12 months ago, but his performances particularly since the turn of the year have been fantastic. What a player and what a left wing we have.

you cannot introduce too many at a time - took Taylor 18 months to be reliably effective and that was probably part of the reason Dwight was held back earlier in the season. Dwight's lapses in concentration in defense are being covered mainly by Taylor but also by Cork, Barnes and Mee. It is a learning curve and requires patience and understanding - which evidence suggests few on here have been willing to give. Our approach to defense means it is difficult to carry more than one who is raw and developing in the 11.

not suggesting we do, Fulham and Huddersfield are proof that that doesn't work.......but I'd rather have a younger quicker adventurous midfielder pushing for a place than Defour any day of the week

Charlie's biggest problem pre Xmas was Dyche. Dyche was playing both him and Lennon to deep, he did not let him play his natural game, which is to get forward and attack the wings

Dyche changed his tactics mid December because he was getting desperate and knew he had to try something different. With the introduction of McNeil and a more offensive mind set from Dyche, Charlie is now flourishing

Two facts for the season.

One -Taylor was nowhere near good enough in the first half of the season and was rated accordingly. In my opinion he was our worst player particularly in games at Wolves as an example and we were one of the worst 3 teams in the league.

Two - Taylor is by far the most improved player in our team by a country mile. He has been absolutely brilliant since Everton and along with Dwight is one of the reasons that we have got back to being one of the best teams in the league as was the case last season.

Dyche and his team have performed wonders getting someone who didn’t know whether to stick or twist when defending spaces to the accomplished player he is today...yes he needed games but those games were looking like relegation as one or two of the people who continually dig people out for comments were actually flapping about at the time

My biggest complaint about him pre-Xmas was his decision making. He is so left footed and he would allow himself to be closed down and then freeze or rush a pass. Thankfully those days are gone. Everything he does is snappier, whether it’s his passing or carrying the ball. He knows what is going on around him and gets it moving.

At the beginning of this season I was one of the posters who felt he was out of his depth, boy has he proved me wrong.

He's steadily improved over the last three months and is at the moment one of the first names on the team sheet. He's been terrific of late.

He and McNeil are an absolute joy down our left hand side. Young, talented players showing their quality.

Another few players of their profile in the summer and I’ll be happy
