Stan Ternent
Just heard on a stream, that Dyche is furious with Stan over comments made this week over Warnock.
Can anyone enlighten me?

Re: Stan Ternent
Stan's not employed by the club is he?
Anything he could say about Warnock would be very predictable - we all know (and probably share) his opinion of Warnock.
So why would Dyche be "furious" about anything like this? He'd probably shrug it off with a laugh.

Re: Stan Ternent
I saw Stan on the Goals on Sunday show, with Blackwell, many years ago and he was still fuming about it. Blackwell was as good as telling him it was a wind up but Stan wasn't for having it.
Their animosity goes back a long, long time.

Stan knows how to hold a grudge. I know many people who have wronged me, but over time I can never remember why.

What's the story behind the animosity? I know I've disliked Colin since Stan was manager but can't remember why at all.

Story has it when we played Sheff Utd at Brammell Lane, Warnock sent some of his staff to go listen to Stans talk behind the door of the dressing roomclaretabroad wrote:What's the story behind the animosity? I know I've disliked Colin since Stan was manager but can't remember why at all.

Wasn't it Kevin Blackwell who was and still is Warnocks assistant who was sent by Warnock to listen in to Stans half time team talk?wilks_bfc wrote:Story has it when we played Sheff Utd at Brammell Lane, Warnock sent some of his staff to go listen to Stans talk behind the door of the dressing room
Stan found Blackwell listening outside our changing room door and allegedly punches were thrown
And since then Stan and Blackwell have been good buddies but Stan has never forgotten it was Warnocks idea to listen in
That's what I heard but not sure if true

Given the kind of last eighteen months or so that Stan's just had, I reckon Warnock will be the last thing on his mind.

Re: Stan Ternent
It dates back much further than that. I can’t remember which clubs they were at at the time though. It’s in Stan’s book, I think Colin accused one of Stan’s players of something but the details escape me.mkmel wrote:Wasn't it Kevin Blackwell who was and still is Warnocks assistant who was sent by Warnock to listen in to Stans half time team talk?

Re: Stan Ternent
The eave dropping at the dressing room is well known.
I also understand that Warnock took over Bury after Stan had a fallout as their manager. Warnock took the shakers up and claimed all the credit, when Stan believed, right or wrong I don't know, that he had done all the donkey work and put the pieces in place.

Re: Stan Ternent
It goes back to when Stan was at Hull. Warnock accused one of Stan’s players of headbutting one of his players in the tunnel area. Stan disagreed and that was the start of it.claretabroad wrote:What's the story behind the animosity? I know I've disliked Colin since Stan was manager but can't remember why at all.
The player who supposedly head butted was Leigh Palin who played one game for us.

Re: Stan Ternent
There seems to be a lot of head butting stories in Stan's archive.
Off the top of my own head... Ron Futcher, Kevin Blackwell, David May.
I'm sure there are others!

I thought it was when Stan had left Bury for us and Colin took over and accused Stan of poaching players and undermining his chances of keeping Bury in the championship

Re: Stan Ternent
i also remember Colin saying something about Stan's days in management showing disregard for the wellbeing of the opposition (I'm putting that as mildly as possible as I can't quote exactly),

Re: Stan Ternent
I remember thinking the same when Stan's Bury side were beaten 3-1 at the Turf. Especially the performance of a certain Lenny Johnrose that day.boatshed bill wrote:i also remember Colin saying something about Stan's days in management showing disregard for the wellbeing of the opposition (I'm putting that as mildly as possible as I can't quote exactly),
Stan's sides were hard and often pushed the limit of what was acceptable. It made for a successful formula and without Stan we might still be skulking round the lower leagues so I won't hear a bad word against him.
What I will say is this - if any manager in the football league (past or present) is holy enough to criticize Stan for his approach then at the very last of that long line, next to Satan himself and just behind of Graeme Souness, will be Neil fricking Wazzock.
Warnock can take a hike. Stan is a Claret.
Here endeth the debate.

It goes back further than the eavesdropping incident. He does say in the book that he won't reveal the reason for the hatred against Warnock.

Re: Stan Ternent
My dad was a fire officer and I remember him telling me they were called to the club once. I forget the reason why but they needed to get there quick (gas leak / fire). Stan was driving out and he refused to reverse to let the fire engine in. My Dad said they had words and he eventually reversed to let them in.TomtheClaret wrote:Just heard on a stream, that Dyche is furious with Stan over comments made this week over Warnock.

Stan was a good manager, but from other stories I've heard about him he sounds like a bit of a bellend.

Porterfield was manager, Stan was coach. They were playing up North and Stan wanted to go off with his wife and friends after the match.
