The Taylor tackle did look like a penalty. It didn't look to me from the angle, that he won the ball.

Possibly yes i think he got away with one there, the fact that Gunnarsson was pulling himself, might have made Dean call it 6 and half a dozen, thankfully for us.FactualFrank wrote:The Taylor tackle did look like a penalty. It didn't look to me from the angle, that he won the ball.

Re: Match of the Day
That first one is a pen under current rules and with VAR next season (not that I agree with it, as where else it he supposed to put his arms?)
Other two no way, and how the hell the linesman gave it with his view is ridiculous. No wonder Dean disallowed it.
But MOTD didn't mention how dominant we were first half, and we should have been out of sight.

Ian Wright didn't surprise me though. Perhaps beyond a joke for him though. We know he doesn't like us and he has an axe to grind - yet they still employ him. That's a bit daft.

Whilst stalking the northstand forum earlier they were debating a tete a tete between Mepham and Andone. Both got yellows and they thought Mepham should have seen red. MotD didn’t even show it.

Re: Match of the Day
With VAR I reckon all three are given, rightly or not. The first one blocks a goal bound effort, which I know isn't the law, but the opinion of the ref is the one that matters (e.g the silly penalty Man Utd got against PSG).
The second one looks like he moves his hand towards the ball. He doesn't, it's just his arm moving with his body as he jumps, but if that's given in the World Cup final, then it's given in the Premier League.
If you got 10 top flight refs to look at the Taylor one then I reckon five of them give it, so that's luck of the draw. Taylor fouled him but only after being fouled first.
All of these have written laws stating why they aren't penalties, but VAR will need to be justified.
Incidentally, I reckon Dean might be the main ref to stand against VAR and trust his eyes and judgement over it, more so than younger refs.

Re: Match of the Day
Ian Wright truly is unbearable. I don’t know what happened during his brief time with us but I’m pretty sure that he now hates us.
He has no idea at all of the laws of the game if he thinks just because a shot is on target it’s automatically deliberate hand ball, and yet the BBC employ him! Anyone off the street knows more about the rules of football then he does. Very poor ‘pundit’.

Re: Match of the Day
First penalty shout for Cardiff was no different to the one Wolves had - way too close to the man for him to react. The second was a result of Ben Mee apparently having a 50p head and his arm was by his side. The third between Taylor and Gunnarsson is probably the closest to being a penalty, but given his back was to Gunnarsson I think it would have been incredibly harsh

I'm a huge fan of Taylor, as well you all know, but I can also see a foul. That to me, from the Sky Sports angle and MOTD... it's a foul. We got lucky.SparkyClaret wrote:First penalty shout for Cardiff was no different to the one Wolves had - way too close to the man for him to react. I think Taylor has been fantastic for us this season, but I think he's falling as he makes contact with the Cardiff player behind him. I don't think it's intentional to bring the man down, but happy to agree to disagreeFactualFrank wrote:I'm a huge fan of Taylor, as well you all know, but I can also see a foul. Re: Match of the Day
First one Mee didn’t move his hand towards the ball, and it was in a natural position.
Second one is accidental, European interpretation is to give them, Premier League is not to, so Dean got it consistent with the PL
Third one, Taylor gets a toe on the ball I thought, but there could have been man at the same time. Hard to tell.
So, no conclusive penalties.

No it’s not six and half a dozen. It’s a clear and obvious push,as a result of which Taylor is lying face down on the Turf when he catches Gunnarsson. If it’s a foul at all, the first foul is committed by the Cardiff player.tiger76 wrote:Possibly yes i think he got away with one there, the fact that Gunnarsson was pulling himself, might have made Dean call it 6 and half a dozen, thankfully for us.

I don’t understand why people think that certain pundits hate us because they say something about us he is paid to give an opinion. What he said is fare I think, all 3 could have been given on another day, i personally don’t think any were penalties certainly not the handballs anyway but he is entitled to his opinion.

When they say the same thing time... and time... and time... again. It's tiring.
You won't appreciate that unless you watch enough of what they say.

Loved it when Wrighty signed for us. Gave us real impetus. Seemed to leave on good terms. I’d agree with many on here that he really - consistently - doesn’t seem to like or favour us. Bit strange..

Re: Match of the Day
For anyone who missed it - Taylor was shoved in the back before he went to ground - he was fouled first. Never a penalty.
The Mee handballs - first one, Wright is a cock - no way can Ben get his hand out of the way and so what if it was on target it was ball to hand not hand to ball. Learn the rules you dumb tw@t. Second one, again ball to hand, but I have seen them given in our favour.
Tarky’s knee Cleared the other “claim”.

Charlie definitely got his toe on the ball when he had that second stab at it, and knocked the ball away from the Cardiff lad.
No penalty.

Because the ref didn’t think Taylor was pushed so that part of the debate is irrelevant. For the record I don’t think it was a penalty but not because Taylor was pushed.Colburn_Claret wrote:How can you not see that Gunnarsson pushes him in the back, and if you do see him push him over how can it be a pen?

Re: Match of the Day
The linesman got it right by flagging for a penalty. I thought it was a penalty all day long. If you look at Mee's position before the ball comes in, he's set all wrong. He misjudges the flight of the ball and knows he's about to make a complete hash of the header. He brings his arm up in anticipation of this and ends up heading it on to himself. He was very lucky to have it overturned in my view.
The other 2 shouts. Nah.
Hard lines, Neil. Good riddance.
