The most typical Sean Dyche 2-0 home win performance you will see which secures us another season in this league.
The second half of the season shows we have a good team and wholesale changes are not needed.
However I would like to see a new starting striker, centre midfielder and right back. Aside from that not much else is required.

Solid performance against a poor who side who became more and more desperate as the game went on. A very professional job that will see us safe.

Heaton 7
Lowton 7
Mee 7
Tarks 6 (Struggled against the big CF first half and seemed to pass him over to Mee second half)
Taylor 8 (He's been a real bright spot in the second half of the season, even in some poor team performances)
Cork 7
Westwood 7 (-1 for missing 2 1V1s)
Hendrick 5 (I've been sitting on the fence for a while, but I've now decided he's a poor man's George Boyd)
McNeil 8 (As said on another thread, he's kick started our season pretty much single handedly and is a massive factor in us staying up)
Barnes 6 (Not a Barnes day and one where he should have been hooked early in the second half. He always gives 110% though)
Wood 8 (I'm not always a fan of his all round game as he's slow, struggles for control and is easily brushed off the ball, but yesterday he was very good, so fair play to him and like all good goalscorers he popped up in the right place at the right time)
Cardiff aren't absolutely rubbish, but they don't look to have enough to stay up. However, you can't keep creating and missing chances against a team like that and not fear that at some point it really will bite you very hard in the botty! That made me very, very nervous all through the second half until we stuck the second one in. 39 points really should be enough and as others have mentioned, OVERALL our team is good enough for this league, but some sensible and strategic decisions have to now be made and the excellent second half of the season mustn't hide the fact that Cork is now too slow, Brady is shot, Hendrick is Championship and Defour is f***ed and we have to get active. I was never one for believing SD should go, even in the darkest days as he's always been the best man for the job, but I do think he's been a bit fortunate to get away with it this season after some very lackluster recruitment and the unexpected emergence of McNeil is possibly what has saved us.

Re: Burnley v Cardiff - Player Ratings
Heaton 7 - Nowt to do really
Lowton 7 - Fine. Solid alternative to big Phil.
Tarkowski 7 - People talking about the 1st half. Did he have anything to do? We battered them.
Mee 8 - His usual solid self. Either hand ball would have been very harsh.
Taylor 8 - Stunning 2nd half to the season continued. Possibly a pen though.
Hendrick 7 - Decent. Bit dopey on the ball occasionally.
Westwood 8 - Has to score. But the fact he was there epitomises his performance, he was everywhere again.
Cork 7 - Solid enough
McNeil 10 - No hesitation giving him a 10. A massive part in turning our season around and he showed why again today. Balance, the time he creates for himself on the ball and delivery. Joy to watch.
Wood 9 - Should have scored sooner, but he did what he does.
Barnes 8 - Paired up well with Wood again. One of the first names on the team sheet for me.
Dyche is the finest manager we’ve ever had and his critics need to manage their expectations a tad better. Has he ever lost a ‘must not lose’ game such as this with us? It’s a remarkable record against ‘the rest’ at home. With a bit of help in the summer and an uninterrupted pre-season we’ll be absolutely fine next season as well.
Edit: a note on Colin. I think we need to let the Stan thing go. Let’s be honest there’s only been one winner in that battle and I wouldn’t mind seeing him again next season at the expense of Brighton.

The only one I can think of is the Leicester game at home when we went down. Matt Taylor missed the penalty and a soon after they went up the other end and scored.claretgilly wrote:Has he ever lost a ‘must not lose’ game such as this with us?

Re: Burnley v Cardiff - Player Ratings
Heaton - 7 never troubled and it was more about what he did off the ball yesterday, his leadership over the penalty was first class
Lowton - 7
Tarkowski - 7 the booking first half was laughable
Mee - 7 incredible technique to face the ball into his arm
Taylor - 9 excellent again, said all along he needed time to find his feet at this level and he's absolutely done that
Westwood - 6 should have been 3-0 up by half time but his poor finishing put paid to that. Excellent energy 2nd half though.
Cork - 7 thought he was very good today, did all the ugly stuff well
Hendrick - 7 two excellent balls across that could have been finished better and he stuck to his task well
McNeil - 8 can't argue with two assist. The fact that gunnarsson twice just gave up trying to challenge him said it all.
Barnes - 7 nowty get
Wood - 8 his movement on corners is excellent and has made us a real threat. He's really stepped up since Christmas.
A game that was as much about laughing at Cardiff as it was about celebrating our survival. They might well have been singing 2-0 to the referee but really this was just simply a case of 2-0 to the better team.
None of the penalty claims had any merit and you have to laugh at Warnock moaning about our players surrounding the ref - 2 of his were booked for exactly that.
Anyway, despite all the alleged controversy, none of which was controversial, this was another strong performance from us, especially the first half. Had Westwood taken two easy chances, this would have been a rout.
It'd be nice to have a say in the title race now but chances are the flip flops might be on by then.

Marney had been crocked weeks before this and played no further part that season. I don't recall Ings getting injured that day and he played the entire match. It's just that he hadn't scored for about 10 games.Colburn_Claret wrote:Didn't they crock either Ings or Marney after about 4 mins into that game. That cost us more than the penalty
We were pretty unfortunate that day tbh, had much of the play and a number of decent chances, but Vardy caught us on the break.

On SSN, Lowton has just got into Phil Babbs' PL team of the week. Interesting to see what happens when Bardsley is fit.
