York is a beautiful place, so not surprised to see it on the list.

If there is anywhere locally i would like to live i would have to say the ribble valley on the outskirts of Whalley, the lakes is beautiful but too commercialised and touristy, Whiltshire is another nice part of the country but to be honest i wouldn't like to move too far from my beloved Turf Moor.

Salisbury area / Wiltshire is great - it is unfortunately a long way from Turf Moor as I know to my cost
Still I was in the local pub by five past nine last night!

Hi SW, Burnley gets a mention "Best places...to pick up a cheap property."

Blaenau Gwent first, Burnley second and Hyndburn, "which includes Oswaldtwistle and Accrington" third. BG "a property here costs £99,991 - the only place in the country where the average price is less than £100,000."

The article goes on to say:" Of course, cheap isn't the same as good value...."

Near t'Turf and low house prices, what more do we want?

They might as well just label these lists as “the most picturesque White British towns to live in”. Middle England aka expensive and boring as hell.

Hi Winston, that's not accurate for all the "best places:" Isle of Dogs is the winner in London. "It was once populated entirely by dockers: the notorious Millwall FC started out here."

Expensive in the city, a bit less so on the Plain.

They could do with some decent roofers round here though

Yeah okay you got me with that one. Isle of Dogs is definitely not picturesque White British. Bloody expensive though. I can’t imagine you’d get anywhere there for less than 300k.

A rigged survey, no doubt, although Salisbury would always be high on any list. Very safe, jobs, bloody grammar schools, watermeadows, sensational cathedral spire and cathedral close, no buildings over 40 feet high, Mediaeval City.

Just the traffic jams!

Just back from seeing the Mighty Clarets secure 3 in a row.

Chelsea, here I come!

Shame it's not how it actually was 60 odd years ago before the locals put it back together into its current form.
They don't really shout that bit out though, because it would be bad for tourism.

I was in Pourtsmoth last weekend after the Bournemouth game to catch the ferry to Bilbao. I was very impressed with Pompey and the surrounding areas. I went down to Fratton Park the 1st time since 1972 and filled up next door at the Tesco station.
Had a ride down the front at South Sea and was very impressed, the place is like Lytham but on a larger scale

I lived in York. Stupidly expensive and full of idiots who thought they were better than others. Well, so long as mummy & daddy kept paying the rent.

I've got plenty, I just don't like paying through the nose.

I would love to have a house in any of those places. Then I could sell it and buy the house I live in now, in Colne, which suits me very well; and I could retire of the profits.

Yes really, try visiting on a weekend or race day, the town centre is a no go area. The town also has some of the most deprived areas in the uk. The history in the town is magnificent but day to day life less so.

Parts of Kent are stunning. MY area, the Weald and all the way out to Goudhurst etc etc. Mind you I am in Burmarsh, East Sussex at the mo.' So much woodland and rolling countryside. Did not one of the astronauts on a moon landing remark how green Britain looked from outer space?
