Champagne banned from Cup Final changing rooms
There will be no bubbly in the winning changing rooms at this years F.A. Cup Final thanks top the PC brigade. Certain religious groups are forbade to use alcohol so everyone has to follow suit. Sounds about right the minority determining what the majority do but what gets me is Talk Sports Jim White backs the move he said ' as somebody that has struggled with alcohol in the past I think it's the right thing to do' What !!!!! that say's more about you mate but to push a religious belief on us especially in our national game is wrong. 359 Sri Lankans won't be having another drink regardless of who wins the cup

Seem like a progressive and sensible move by the FA. I'm not fully sure why its that newsworthy as it doesn't really impact anyone but I guess there's bound to be some snowflakes like the OP who get offended easily and like to make a fuss about nothing

But Champaign isn’t Italian... it’s from Champaign in France. It’s why the British version has to be called sparkling wine.middleton claret wrote:Shite Italian = Champagne Sarri !!.
Re: Champagne banned from Cup Final changing rooms
The tradition has long since been leeched from the FA Cup to satisfy the big teams and tv companies, this really isn’t going to make that much difference. I remember when the FA Cup was the worlds biggest cup competition, it’s just the League Cups older brother now.

Correct elwa, only trying to be topical. Prosecco & Spumante would be the Shite Italian substitutes, but only Champagne produced from the Champagne region of France is allowed to be called Champagne. By the way you spelt it wrongly if you want to be all P.C. !!

Yet clubs are still allowed to wear shirts with betting sponsors names on them,
Seems somewhat hypocritical as if they believe their own reasons in explaining the Champagne ban ,surely that also applis to betting which is against some religions and cultures.
Oh wait a minute ,champagne producers dont put £millions into the game via sponsorship.
Football really has sold its soul.

I couldn't care less actually think of the cleaners after a half dozen bottles of the stuff is squirted all over everyone the cupboards the floors ceilings it goes as sticky as owt
I was at Southend when we won the 3rd Division that season, after celebrating on the pitch we went in to the side stand were the players greeted us with the big magnum bottles.
I got a face full off Andy Wharton it stung like mad blinded me for a few minutes i will never forget him for that

We have a lot of players who struggle with alcohol addiction
We have a lot of players who are forbidden to drink alcohol
If I was either of these I'd be uncomfortable getting sprayed with the stuff.
It's not like anyone even drinks it.
Good decision, but it will obviously cause certain people to be outraged. But then outrage culture is what sells newspapers nowadays.
Ironically the people who use snowflake as an insult tend to be the most snowflake-y people out there.

I’m presuming there will be non alcoholic “ champagne”? now or are they doing away with the whole “ spraying the booze” celebration. ? Quite why alcoholic Jim White is sticking his oar in is anyone’s business . I’m genuinely not sure if this is simply a “ don’t link alcohol with sport” move or a sop to certain ultra rich owners ? Though I’d add the rider that I’d never accuse Arabs coming over to say London for a few weeks to gamble ,screw and get ****** , oh no sir !

Wow I was at the game, lovely balmy evening there were loads of clarets in the open end with plastic pints Andy jumped on the wall and took a swig of one and went back to the pitch. I was staying over at a mates in London and on the way back every pub had a SENSIBLE PRICED Transit van on the car park, great night utcLongside4evr wrote:I couldn't care less actually think of the cleaners after a half dozen bottles of the stuff is squirted all over everyone the cupboards the floors ceilings it goes as sticky as owt

There is nothing in the Koran that says you can't drink alcohol.
It advises against drinking alcohol as it makes one behave poorly in excess. Also not to pray whilst under the influence of alcohol as it makes your prayers meaningless. If one has to pray 5 times a day it gives one little time to sober up between times.....
Not exact wording but hopefully clear enough.

Thank the almighty the League Cup is no longer sponsored by the Milk Marketing Board as milk would have to be banned from the vessel on Final day due to the high prevalence of lactose intolerance in certain groups of people or if I am allowed to use the term-certain Races like the Orientals

At the end of the 1 day series last year in Cricket, the England players celebrated with Champagne while Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali just stood to the side away from it all just for that moment, then they joined in the celebrations afterwards. Not sure why they just can't do that?

I wasn't even intending to get into a theological debate. I just meant that if you choose to follow a religion, you choose to prohibit yourself from certain acts. Nobody's actually prohibiting you.HatfieldClaret wrote:True

Bit of trivia for you. In France "le champagne" (masculine) refers only to the drink, whilst La Champagne (feminine) refers only to the area where it is produced. Just so you don't make a faux pas the next time you visit.

Not read the whole thread, but the champagne is just for spectacle to be fair, it could be lemonade or a non-alcoholic alternative. It’s only there for the photos.
I don’t think anyone is sat at home hoping it’s alcoholic.

In its current meaning, that's absolutely not true. The fact that it previously had some, rather limited, usage that might have some elements of race doesn't have any relevance. I hope none of our players chose to have a drink at the player awards this year. How dare footballers think it’s ok to celebrate with alcohol and how dare they think they have a choice in what they do and what they drink!
And I really hope they don’t think they can substitute any alcohol for pop or lucozade as that’s majorly offensive to those with diabetes. No chicken or beef too as that’s offensive to vegans, just water and cabbage until they retire.

Re: Champagne banned from Cup Final changing rooms
I heard this news today and was looking forward to coming on here to see the mouth frothing from the usual suspects. You never disappoint.
Champagne hasn't been banned from the winning changing rooms so the OP is wildly inaccurate. The winning team will just be awarded a magnum of non-alcoholic sparkling wine as an alternative. If the winning team wants to crack open some beers etc. in the changing room as is usually the case, or if the want to pop a couple of bottles of Bollinger then that will be perfectly fine.
Those who don't drink for religious, legal or other reasons can chose whether or not to partake. Being sprayed with alcohol doesn't really give that choice and may leave players in an uncomfortable position, or isolated from the celebrations which someone seems to have highlighted as a good thing above.
If you've got a real problem with this then you're a muppet.
