Proud
That was a Burnley effort to be proud of today. 29.5mm decided the game, one in which Burnley defended to a man and stuck to the task throughout.
Every single Clarets player did themselves proud today. The defenders were so well-drilled and on the same page and the goalkeeper behind was Captain fantastic.
I’d like to apologise to Ben Mee, on behalf of Gareth Southgate. How he doesn’t get into the England side is beyond me. His blocks and positional play were absolutely phenomenal. Well played Burnley… So so close!
Up the clarets!

This second half of the season is the best I've seen from Mee, even his distribution has improved

Re: Proud
Exactly we where inches from nicking a point against one of the best PL sides ever,i'm sure the usual moaning Myrtles will still whine though.
I expected us to lose today, but what's pleasing is we have our tenacity back,City know they could have slipped up,credit to them they pushed and deserved the win,but they had to work their bo***cks off to get the 3 points.
Carry on like that in the final 2 games and points will come our way,Arsenal were abysmal away from home yet again, and their defence is leaky to say the least.

Defended superbly but understandably tired around the time they scored.

Over 5 seasons, Burnley have an operating profit of £75M. In the same period Man City have operating losses of £300M - despite over £2Billion turnover. Without a sugar daddy, the spoiled girl in the pretty blue dress wins nothing. #Proudsville

Great defensive effort against high class opposition but we offered nothing upfront and let’s not forget we’ve only just scraped to safety after a season long relegation battle

'The Gulf' in class between city and virtually everyone else can't be good for the game.!aiboforceN wrote:Over 5 seasons, Burnley have an operating profit of £75M. All we could do was work hard, stay organised, defend stoutly and hope for a set piece.
In those first three we were magnificent... The set piece never materialised.

Agree. I've been very critical of him in the past, but since Heaton has come back in, he has been superb. Best defender since XmasVegas Claret wrote:This second half of the season is the best I've seen from Mee, even his distribution has improved

Re: Proud
Good news, bad news.
Ben Mee is finishing the season in superb form. A couple of MoM performances against some of Europe's best. Good news.
Bad news? It won't have gone unnoticed. Not talking England here but I think Burnley will do well to hold onto him this summer. With all the talk and attention on Tarks...watch the Mee space...

Re: Proud
I agree. We've much to be proud of over the last 10 seasons or more.
Especially defensively in the last two games where we've (the whole team not just the defense)
have put in 'back to the wall' performances.
We may have only picked up one point and didn't offer much offensively today
but every player was up for it and doing their jobs.
But can we move on from where we are and establish ourselves in the Premiership
and not have to face a relegation struggle in every season?
That is the challenge and it will take, without doubt, some doing.
A few new faces will be required to move us up a level (top ten) and I'm sure the club/Dyche
are looking at ways to do so.
But at present we can be justifiably proud of the club and all it has achieved
over these years.
Well done Dyche, the players, board and all associated with the club.
The fans too.

Ben Mee was phenomenal at Chelsea on Monday and just as good today against probably one of the best couple of sides in the world.jdrobbo wrote:That was a Burnley effort to be proud of today. 29.5mm decided the game, one in which Burnley defended to a man and stuck to the task throughout.

Why he has never been recognised by England is beyond me given the amount of time Southgate spends at Turf Moor.
A massive well done to Barnes also today who must have covered some miles on that pitch.

Re: Proud
Proud is the correct word, brilliant performance today, let’s not forget City needed the win today more than we needed a point. I had to chuckle about Dyche’s post game interview saying City had 4 CB’s on late in the game to protect a 1-0 lead against ‘little Burnley’.
As for Barnes, there’s not a PL player who’s got more from his skills than him. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. He’s the heart and soul of our on field team.

I can't recall one and I never thought we'd trouble the scorers. Why were City so cagey to bring on 2 centre halves? Can you imagine UTC msg board if Dyche did that?jrgbfc wrote:I wouldn't say that exactly, did we even manage a shot on goal today?
Why were City so arse twitchy? The media hype that this would be tougher than United or they knew we'd give them a game?
So credit due.
City's passing 1st half was poor, arguing amongst themselves and the linesman.

Re: Proud
Pep knew that possession and chances created means f all when you play Burnley. We can always soak it up and nick a goal (or two) with almost no possession. He was crapping himself all game and at 1-0 decided to shut up shop. Unfortunately we were too knackered by then to really take the game to them and that was shame as I felt their jittery anus meant they were ripe for conceding!

Re: Proud
City were simply managing the game. The three points were the all important thing to them after a long season. They didn’t need to entertain, they didn’t need injuries to key players, they didn’t need more goals, but they did need to shut out a team that were pumping long balls to tiring forwards. They reinforced their defence and guaranteed the points against the only threat to their goal.exilecanada wrote:Proud is the correct word, brilliant performance today, let’s not forget City needed the win today more than we needed a point. We can’t overdo this “little Burnley” thing - we finished 7th last year and finished the second half of this in similar form. We are a significant player in the Premier League and this game was acknowledged by most pundits as the most difficult game for the reigning champions.

Re: Proud
I saw the game life on TV and I have just watched again. OK so we lost but, in reality, that was hardly unexpected and maybe we were lucky not to concede a penalty but what a display! I don't know what Ben Mee has to eat at the pre match meal but his performances against Chelsea and Man City were as good as any I've seen from a Claret in many years.
Proud...you bet I am!
