I remember there being only 3 sides wasn't it something to do with the cricket field at the open end.

It seemed like half of Burnley was there that day, with our fans on all three sides of the ground.

First game back in Division One and we won 2-0 with Doug Collins scoring a cracker. Also recall we played in a very unusual away kit, not sure we wore that one very often.

Big disappointment. :?

It is. Fairly big, atmospheric, modernised a bit but still an 'old school' feel to it and a city centre location. Last visit for the Notts' was that great 3-2 win in 2008.

This and Spurs away will be the first fixtures we look for when they come out.

Littlej*hn spoiled it in the first leg. Got Adrian Heath sent off.

Has any other player ever been sent off for being punched other than Adrian Heath?

I also remember Heath being sent off for time wasting at home to Reading when we were losing! Kicked it over Shaka Hislop's head into the goal

I remember him being interviewed after and arguing that Hislop was about 7 foot tall or similar :)

But then I suppose everyone looked 7 foot tall to Inchy

He was Joey, first game of the season and Docherty didn't play again for over a year.

Uwe Noble took over the No.2 shirt and what a fabulous side that became as we finished 6th first time back in the top flight.

Stevenson, Noble, Newton, Dobson, Waldron, Thomson, Nulty, Casper, Fletcher, Collins & James.

One of the best teams ever to wear the Claret & Blue shirt.

Am I assuming you mean the opening day of the season in August 1973? The last ever cricket match at Bramall Lane had been played that month between Lancashire and Yorkshire.

For those with interest, it was a draw:
Yorkshire 99 & 114/2
Lancashire 111/8 dec

I was there in the early 1960’s when we won 1-0 with a goal from Alex Elder. This was an FA cup game and we went to reach the final.

On day 1 of the Roses match, in admittedly helpful conditions, Peter Lee and Tony Nicholson were both unplayable. As were the Clarets a couple of weeks later.

That was the first time I saw Burnley win away from home. It was just my second away game and we'd lost at Blackburn in the first.

Sheffield United scored on 15, 17 and 19.

It was Leighton James's debut on his first return to Burnley.

My first visit there was to our youth cup quarter final game in 1968.
Still remember my surprise on getting into the ground not having known there was a cricket pitch next to the footy one without any physical separation. Strange set up. Anyone remember how they got the ball back quickish when it had been hoofed miles out of play?

That and 1993 were real bad memories for me going there as a kid. Not to mention the eavesdropping incident.
