What was your fantasy football top?
What was your fantasy football top?
It can be a bit earnest to play footy in your own club colours as a kid, not least losing! So, like Subbuteo, as a kid one has a fantasy football team top to play footy with your friends on the local playing fields.
I had a Celtic top and preteneded to be Kenny Dalgish (early 70's). Little did I know what the future would hold, including running for my life across Turf Moor whilst Burnley v. Celtic was still being played. Survival first and then Kenny managing Rovers...
Still, I had a bit of fun playing in it.
What team colours did you play in and why? My next -door neighbour was Leeds United!

My dad for some reason got me an 80s Aberdeen goalie shirt from Cockers. It had good elbow pads though!

My Dad bought me N.Ireland & Stoke City jerseys for Jimmy Mac but my favourite was a Wolves jersey, from an uncle and I've had an affinity for them ever since.

Re: What was your fantasy football top?
All my earliest kits were Liverpool or England ones as they were "my teams" as a young lad (early / mid 80's) until I started getting taken on Burnley games regularly.
Won a free season ticket to Colne Dynamoes the year they disbanded and was gutted at the time. My mum later told me there was no way She would have taken me on there and would have got me a Burnley one instead had it come to it. As it was we went on most games at home and a few away that season and then next few before getting a season ticket in 94 / 95 (I think).

Re: What was your fantasy football top?
Literally collected kits as a kid. so had loads.
The ones I always fancied but never got round to buying was most of Hollands and Croatias. They had some cracking shirts.
Almost all of my shirts were foreign but did have a few other British ones despite being Burnley mad and a season ticket holder pretty much forever. The ones I had most of were Rangers who I had a soft spot for as a kid - got one most seasons. And Newcastles who were my 'match of the day team'. (Never ever thought we would end up on it!!)
Thankfully never had a Liverpool, Leeds or United one - had that well and truly drilled into me
Loved Italian football as pretty much all of the kids my age did. And liked the Sampdoria and Lazio kits but the only one I ever had was this Inter shirt. Wish I still had that and all of my others. God knows what happened to them all

Re: What was your fantasy football top?
Another shout for Croatia here as well as a palermo shirt I used to love.
I remember my mum coming back from a charity shop and she'd got me an old Barcelona shirt with de la pena on the back... I thought it was cool as hell!

Re: What was your fantasy football top?
Once had an RSC Anderlecht shirt that came from Winfields, the sponsor had some sort of swirly logo.
My other...1998 World Cup Germany Home and Away - Bierhoff no. 23 on the back.

Re: What was your fantasy football top?
is that a Sampdoria shirt, Jd? I'm inspired to be a bit daft today, so Ill walk round town in my old Espanyol top. it's got the worst collar of a football top I've ever seen and DANI as a sponsor, which is tinned fish.... . Yes Dani... tinned fish!

I've wanted a Croatia top since Euro 96 but never acted on my desire.

Re: What was your fantasy football top?
Not as a kid but very early 90s I had a Red Star Belgrade shirt, possibly around the time they won the European Cup. My parents used to go to Yugoslavia on holiday quite regularly and got to know a few people over there. One of them gave them a shirt for me at the end of their holiday. Apart from that I have never owned a football shirt that wasn't either England or Burnley.

I bet Davor Suker caught your eye ...on watching his skills on the ball my 9 year old son adopted those little roll overs with the ball when playing..and he may have had the Croatia shirt.Falcon wrote:I've wanted a Croatia top since Euro 96 but never acted on my desire.

Re: What was your fantasy football top?
A couple of Newcastle shirts growing up, as one side of my family are from the North East, but never any other domestic shirts.
My best one was probably a 7Up Fiorentina shirt.....when they had Batistuta and Laudrup - two of my favourite players.

Re: What was your fantasy football top?
Like many on here I had many football kits. My Dad would pick them up for a pittance from club shops once they were discounted.
The club shop was then almost always situated in a porta cabin outside the ground.
Specifically remember this late 80s classic:

Must have had about 10 different Spurs shirts growing up. Went to watch them a few times in the away end at Ewood.
It’s funny. I watched out for them quite abit when I was young and they we’re pretty gash to fair. Now I don’t care about them at all.
Ginola will always be my favourite ever player. Well just below Little.
Always felt their a bigger version of us. Even back then. Pretty crap but both had that one ridiculous talent who can win you a game. Both clubs grown over the years whilst spending nowt compared to the teams around us.
