Great we have a manager who prefers being in a relegation scrap over coming 7th. Cant wait for next season

He learned not to play Hart in goal, not to play Hendrick in the number 10 role, not to give Mee the captaincy, not not to play Wood and Barnes together, and thankfully Lennon getting injured got him out of the team and brought McNeil in. Without these changes, we may well have been playing in the Championship next season.

I never doubted Dyche once during his reign but I will admit I wavered during December. I couldn't see any way out of it after Everton and was coming round to the idea that Sean had peaked and we were staring straight down the Championship barrel. I still thought he was the man for the job, maybe a soft reboot of the team etc and go for it again. What happened after Boxing was nothing short of a relative footballing miracle. I don't think I'll ever doubt the man again, what a legacy,

Pretty good might not be good enough for the PL. we need strengthening in midfield and more pace up front.

To be fair second half has been incredible. I doubt even the famed allerdyce wouldve had that impact. Absolutely incredible.Devils_Advocate wrote:Great we have a manager who prefers being in a relegation scrap over coming 7th. Cant wait for next season
He is intelligent. Articulate and progressive and we are lucky to have him.
The thing that impressed me post City defeat was his honesty about our situation. He said if he had the budget and the opportunity he would look to improve our style. The problem is the limitations we have. Some are self imposed some arent. But he is very good at playing to our strengths.
Ideally we will start to be more competetive in cups. Aim to go for europe again etc as aiming for survival alone will soon get very boring. But as long as we keep progressing as a club and team we cant complain.
On the field this year we have gone backwards. But as a club we are still moving forwards. Hopefuly this season is a lesson and we see gradual improvements in both style and quality.

The players who have played in the 2nd half of the season certainly seem good enough for this league. 2 or 3 quality signings needed to add to this group.Vino blanco wrote:Pretty good might not be good enough for the PL. we need strengthening in midfield and more pace up front.

Certainly is his greatest achievement.
In his post match interview after the Palace game he looked lost for words for the first time I remember.
Hope what really happened in those first 19 games eventually comes out in someones autobiograghy .
The change in Ben Mee in the last 17 games compared to those 1st 19 games is extraordinary,
If he thinks its his biggest achievement I believe the signing of Hart has been his biggest mistake,
Not that I think Hart is a bad keeper just that his style didnt suit our style of play/players

Just hope that we are not seeing the excuses already for not signing the central midfielder( s) that we need. Aarron Mooy is the obvious signing and should doable.

Yes. Remember him post palace. Never seen him look so shellshocked.
He obviously took time to reflect on it though.
Got to love him.

Re: 'It's one of my best achievements' - Dyche
Not sure how anyone can describe this season as going backwards given the last 17 games have provided a higher points to games ratio than last season when we finished 7th. I think this is what he means along with learning from the trials and tribulations of games 1 to 19 and the other distractions, lack of pre-season etc.
The current team has shown it is more than good enough in 2019 and with a few tweaks who knows how well we can do...

But the seasons measured over 38 games not 17. Obviously last 17 have been pheonomenal. But had the season been reversed, it would be classed as a shambles.Hibsclaret wrote:Not sure how anyone can describe this season as going backwards given the last 17 games have provided a higher points to games ratio than last season when we finished 7th. Overall its been ok. Last half of the season fantastic. Forst half after finishing 7th and getting in europe was shambolic. To get knocked out of europe, start the seasom how we did, get beat off Burton and get as many humpings as we did was very disappointing.

Not the way he does it. All it takes to be a devil's advocate is to listen to everyone saying "the sun is shining", and to disagree, eg. by saying "that's not the sun, it's the moon".Caballo wrote:Devils advocate requires a modicum of intellect, you're falling some way short.

.
It was obviously going to be harder starting the season in July and playing Sunday, Thursday with the associated travel etc. Clearly that was harder than playing less games the previous season along with the limited pre season. It was a learning curve for a smaller club in Europe and there are many other examples of where smaller teams have struggled in the prem alongside Europa games.
The boss himself clearly believes that this season has been more satisfactory and I agree.

Re: 'It's one of my best achievements' - Dyche
I think it shows the clarity of Sean's thinking. Lots of other managers would look at it as a poor season, I agree with SD.
It's his ability to pick the positives out of any game, that rubs off on the players and gets them to over achieve again and again.
We know we dont have the best squad in the Premier League, but I doubt another manager could get as much out of them as Sean does. We're very lucky to have him

Yeah, maybe, I thought when City signed him that he might have been worth a gamble for us. He is a great player, just think he's lacking a bit of pace at this level and is a bit too one footed for playing centrally. He'd improve the squad for sure but would he walk into the first team?summitclaret wrote:Just hope that we are not seeing the excuses already for not signing the central midfielder( s) that we need. Mee was captain for the majority of the season we finished 7th, must have been really hurting us.Vino blanco wrote:He learned not to play Hart in goal, not to play Hendrick in the number 10 role, not to give Mee the captaincy, not not to play Wood and Barnes together, and thankfully Lennon getting injured got him out of the team and brought McNeil in. Re: 'It's one of my best achievements' - Dyche
A few factors as mentioned above. Some of them being the goalkeeper change (though I would prefer we kept Pope - age and hieght basis), Mee settled. Mee and Taylor learnting to play together. McNeil factor, Westwood hitting top form and of course Barnes and Wood. Not forgetting that Bardlsey came in and stiffened things up and is a bit inlucky not to be in the team now.
Re: 'It's one of my best achievements' - Dyche
The improvement in not just form, but performances as well, since the home drubbing against Everton has been fantastic.
Full credit, to Dyche, his staff and the players.

True, but we also need to accept that the order of things is consistent with Dyche's ability to address problems and turn round sides who aren't performing.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Hence in the grand scheme of things it turned it ok. But theres no hiding the first half of the season was shocking.

He did it in between his first half season and first full season, he did it again in the Championship winning season after Boxing Day and he's done it once again after a Boxing Day defeat.
That's three times he's turned things round. We've got to be getting towards it being "statistically significant".
Sometimes things just fall into place for managers and they don't have to do much, but on at least three occasions now Dyche has turned a side round.
Even in the year we were relegated from the Premier League under Dyche, we saw a notable upturn in the second half of the season as results improved.
This is what gives me cause for optimism for next season.

There is another strength to our first team group and that is when Beardsley and McNeill were keeping others out there were no rumblings of discontent being leaked. An important factor. Same with the Heaton, Hart and Pope dilemma.
