I guess this is based on the BBC article which concentrates on Man City taking over from Man U as the "most valuable" Prem Club

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48145285

I'll have a look for the full report to see the detail of how they've evaluated this.

Burnley valued at £398m. That seems extraordinary.

The fact that Leicester are worth less than half of what they were last season (while getting ready to open their new £100m training ground) raises some questions as to the suitability of the methodology

It's 10 years ago today since we went into our game with Bristol City to secure our place in the 2009 play offs. And now we're worth £398m. What a ride!

It’s very commendable, but we shouldn’t make a virtue out of a necessity.

Took a bit of tracking down but the underlying (Univ of L'pool) report is at https://news.liverpool.ac.uk/2019/05/03 ... able-club/

The methodology is outlined near the top of the article, then a bit about each club.

Agreed, if 'poor' could be used! However, when they eventually move on, the income will be huge.

Most of them already are, but it if they were to cash in, it would raise some interesting questions over where the rest of the shareholders would stand after we were disenfranchised a few years ago!

...considering there are, I think, about 130,000 shares in the club which are at £200 a pop, that would make our current valuation about £26m only.

(If I'm wrong about this I'm sure Chester Perry and/or Royboyclaret will put me right)

The shares aren't traded on the open market, where do you get your £200 valuation from?

I think it's fairly open information that shares were £200 each (at least that's what I paid for my substantial holding in the club of one share). I think you have to buy 10 shares now at a cost of £2k if you want to buy any. Again though, I may be wrong with this, too, and CT may have better and more up to date info.

The shares are worth what the current holders are prepared to sell them for.

Hi Goddy, when did you buy your share(s)?

The £398 million valuation is derived applying the same valuation formula for every club - and assumes, amongst other things, that Premier League status is retained - and, I don't think it means, just retained for one season....

With Jim Ratcliffe launching the Ineos Cycling team - previously Sky Cycling - it's also been reported, again, that Jim Ratcliffe offered £2 billion to acquire Chelsea last year, But, even though that figure is a few hundred million above Chelsea's valuation, according to L'pool Uni research, Abromovich is not selling.

How long ago was that though? I'm sure it was before we've been making all these profits.

I don't think they're available at £200 each now.

25 Feb 2013 it says on my share certificate, Paul.

I totally get it's only worth what someone is prepared to pay but I was just giving a view on how different the (rough) valuation of the club was/is.

Anyhow, I'm not selling! :P

don't you have to have permission to sell shares in Burnley?

Not sure, Paul (x 2), if you can still buy them. As I say CT will almost certainly know, if not, ring the club up and ask.

Hi Chester - I think you have to write to the Company Secretary if you want to sell your shares. Don't know if the club then buy them back or broker a deal and offer them. As I say, it's not something I'm looking to do (as if I'm some big shot with mi single share)

not saying you or any other shareholder wants to sell (most if not all never bought them with that intention)

my understanding was the new owner in a share transfer had to be approved by the Directors

I think you're right, Chester, which is why I think you have to write to the club if you were/are considering selling or transfer your share(s)

I have one, too.
I believe the information is correct, however, none on the market. The price was when there was a share allocation. Now, there is no need!

The £200 is the 'face value'. The value of a share with voting rights (ours have no rights, as the main shareholders ousted us) will match the value of the club (the big number)

Is that absolutely no voting right - or no worthwhile voting right given the miniscule percentage of shares held outside of those held outside of the few major shareholders and no way of building a significant holding without Director approval

I suppose it like Burnley Football Club being the Burger Van, happily ticking over a profit on a retail park with McDonalds, Starbucks, Pizza Hut and KFC.

I don't know about anyone else, but I got my single share 10 years ago due to Barry Kilby's Premier League Pledge.
That was where you received a free season ticket (you had to be a current holder of one of course).
I think there were two options to the deal...
1). Where you got the ticket completely free.
2). Where you contributed half towards the season ticket but also received a single share, valued at the time at £200.

Why not? Having to do something but doing it brilliantly should be praised. However, some of us on here have known this for many years.
