I seem to remember hearing that the full game was shown a few weeks later on a screen at the Centre Spot.
Has anybody got a copy of this game anywhere on vhs or dvd?

You've got that wrong. Yes, they had two players sent off but not for fighting each other, that happened in a different Charlton game.

Wasn't it the 5th round replay a couple of days later v. Palace? Twice taken penalty,I think. Brian Laws missed the first one but it had to be re-taken and Steve Taylor scored. He then went on to take the next one in the first couple of minutes v Sheff Wed. The rest we know.

One was a Charlton lad who was still crowing about them beating us just after my birthday earlier in the season.

Loved that trip back to the Smoke.

What a strange season that was, remember thinking Simonson must be like Pele... we'd have no chance. A million pound player at the Turf... it was quite an occasion. I thought we were on the verge of great things by full time, but alas it was a false dawn and it was no surprise when we went down at Palace, despite the Cup heroics.

Hales and Flannagan got sent off for fighting playing for Charlton in a cup game.

Simonsen had a couple of 1 on 1's with Stevenson when it was 0-0 and Stevo thawted him both times. Hales offered the Cricket field stand out into the car park as he made his way to the tunnel.

Yes really was a strange season with the contrast between league and cup. With the team we had we should have been well clear of relegation. I know crowds were down in general across all divisions but we were only just averaging above 7k.

I think Mervyn Day was in the nets for them and pulled a thigh muscle. Don't think we had sub keepers back then so he had to play on.

Started as an Office Junior at Nat West at 18, in 1982 on a Salary of £2,495 pa.. a pint was 41p, I could brim the tank of my 1978 Chrysler Avenger for £12, and a ticket at Twickenham to see England v Ireland in the 5 Nations, cost £2 .After 3 months, I passed my probation and salary went to £2995 !!

Remember it well. We had a bit of a purple patch (Bolton away aside which was probably a sign of things to come as we were poor that day) in early 83 starting with New Years Day hammering of Sheffield Wednesday. I think we only lost once in eight or nine games and won four (five?) home games on the bounce. Then it all went wrong.
Really thought we'd push on after this game and well, what happened later on that season still haunts me.

I can assure you that their would not have been a footballer in this country if not the world earning 6k a week in 83.

It's not as far fetched as you may think. Simonsen was a coup signing by anyone's standards. Far bigger clubs were after him and he was former European player of the year. Probably part of the reason for Charlton's demise. Trying to buy success.

For some reason I wasn't taken to that game but I distinctly remember an irked Jack Holden on Radio Lancashire given a preposterously brief report of the game. A hattrick from Taylor, a hattrick from Hamilton and a goal from Steven was all he had to say. Blackburn b******.

He revelled in our demise. You could hear it in his voice sometimes. Disliked that guy intensely.

I have mentioned this before but he was the RL commentator at an early season game, late 80s. We won in front of a gate of around 7K. The studio host asked about the attendance, JH replied that it hadn't been announced (it had) and he thought it was about 4k. The host then said we have the gate here and it is 7K.

As said, biased, blinkered and always had a dislike for us. I loved listening to him when Roverrrrrs lost to Palace in the play offs, by I think 3 goals and according to Jack Roverrrrrs were the better side, everything went against them and Palace scored 3 down to pure luck. Would be on the comedy channel these days.
