Gun sales tomorrow will soar, as usual after these events, because
people will fear tighter gun controls will come in, making it harder to
buy a firearm.

The 18 gun related incidents this calendar year include a couple of suicides and accidental weapon firings and have, mostly, resulted in no injuries.https://everytownresearch.org/school-shootings/

Oh, that's OK then! Since 2013 there's been 291 reported school shootings in America, which averages out at 1 per week. Usual defensive responses from Americans on social media.
In a way they're right, change's to gun laws won't stop this happening because its simply too late with the number of guns in their country.

Congress is passing a Law to prevent Schools from prohibiting running in the school corridors; they want to give the kids a fighting chance.

I honestly don't understand why they don't just limit civilian gun ownership to handguns, shotguns and single fire rifles. Why on earth would anyone need anymore than that?

This less the handguns. Civilians really don't need weapons such as AK47s to protect themselves from looters. Many in the US see this as a right unfortunately.ClaretMoffitt wrote:I honestly don't understand why they don't just limit civilian gun ownership to handguns, shotguns and single fire rifles. Yes because it's a devastating loss of young life and not just another day. Re: Another day, another mass shooting in the States
Don't worry, Trump has got this. He's said that no child or teacher should fear for their lives at school. He obviously sends thoughts and prayers too.
And there we go, the nutter will crack on without changing anything until he says exactly the same when the next shooting occurs.
It really is sad and frightening.

I didn't have a clue it had happened until I was browsing twitter last night and spotted some comments that made me check the news.
Then I saw Piers Morgan's post demanding Trump take action pretty much, followed by the other stuff.
We can wring our hands or send our prayers as much as we like, but this will be allowed to carry on by the US government.

I saw a news report this morning in which the father of one of the survivors (and a Doctor nonetheless) was on the one hand thanking God his daughter had made it out alive, whilst simultaneously defending his and other Americans rights to carry firearms. Talk about not being able to see the wood for the trees.

18 shootings at schools in america this year alone, taio. there's only been 45 days - that's less than 1 every 3 days!taio wrote:Yes because it's a devastating loss of young life and not just another day. It's not a country full of idiots either, though it has more than it's fair share.
did anyone even know the other 18 had happened? perhaps a certain number of people have to be killed to make it newsworthy these days.
and that's my point. yes, absolutely, its a terrible loss of lives but if there was one school shooting here there would rightly be uproar. 18 is ridiculous. and the fact that its taken one on this scale for it to be reported over here shows how mainstream it is now, how desensitised people are to it.
its shocking that its happened but is anyone shocked by it happening yet again? i very much doubt it.

That's our fault.
The right to bear arms was after the independence, if Britain tried to retake the Colonies.
Britain was still one if not the main milatery powers of the world so the right to bear arms was for the population to have weapons incase we (or someone else) invaded again as the US was mainly a militia force and would have needed the increased manpower of its civilians.
Now they just seem intent on killing ther own civilians.
But as Charlton Heston said.
"I'll give you my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead hands"
What chance do you have with that mentality.

Not original, but the right to bear arms makes as much sense as the right to arm bears.

It's sad to think that the mentality of the NRA is far more dangerous to US citizens on American soil than radicalisation from Islamic State.

Since 1968 1.5 million American civilians have died as a result of guns.
All quiet from the gun lobbies at the moment, they usually give it 3 days before they start spouting their nationalist mantra regarding gun ownership.

Re: Another day, another mass shooting in the States
Its all about population control bit harsh but it is the USA.
Re: Another day, another mass shooting in the States
The system is broke. It gives way too much influence to a small minority of committed, noisy and usually wealthy individuals.
If America is serious about changing gun laws all it's citizens need to do is go and vote. And keeping voting. But they don't.

If 18 young American students had been shot outside the boundaries of the US there would would been outrage from Mr. Trump, the gun lobby and all their citizens.
Inside the US no such response only guns keep us safe.
I read an article on the ITV site where their US correspondent's children's spend more time on drills in case someone shots up the school than on outside sports.

Re: Another day, another mass shooting in the States
Feel awful saying this but I did not feel one pang of emotion upon reading this on various news outlets. I`m afraid I have become desensitised to this nonsense in America. Awful though it is, the passivity of the US government on this issue is solely to blame for a collective shrugging of shoulders around the world. I`m afraid it will take some loner with rifles to open fire in Congress or Senate for the laws to be changed.
