1718 burnley aidan stone 00 500x500At the start of the week we reported that young goalkeepers Conor Mitchell and Aidan Stone had played over the weekend for St. Johnstone and Lancaster City with a view to them going out on loan.

Both of those loans were confirmed yesterday with Mitchell moving up to Scotland for the entire 2018/19 season and Stone joining Lancaster until January.

Mitchell’s new boss for the season is former Northern Ireland goalkeeper Tommy Wright and the young Clarets’ keeper said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining the club. As soon as I hears about St. Johnstone’s interest in me I jumped at the chance to come here.

“My aim for this season was always to get myself out on loan and break away from the academy system. Scotland is a great place for me because it provides a good platform if I do well and it’s great exposure. ”

He added: “As a big football fan and a Northern Irish lad, I’ve followed the career of the manager and the fact he was a goalkeeper a swell can only be a good thing for me.”

Meanwhile, Lancaster boss Phil Brown is delighted with the capture of Stone (pictured) who has been with them on trial for the last couple of weeks. “Aidan’s been with us for a couple of weeks and he’s impressed us all. He has lots of excellent attributes, he brings a physical presence, has good technical ability and displays a positive mindset.”
