Moss rolling into Manchester again
It’s our third league game of the season against a Manchester club tonight and for the third time it will be refereed by Jon Moss.
He was in charge of our home game against United back in September and then was of great help to City when they beat us at the Etihad a month later. City won 5-0 that day, but who knows what might have happened if Moss had sent off Vincent Kompany in the first minute and then not somehow managed to conjure up City’s second goal in the second half.
It’s no surprise to see him close to the bottom of RATE THE REF where he has a rating of just 57.29 out of 100.
He’s refereed 23 games this season and there have been 75 yellow and seven red cards. Of the yellows, 36 have gone to home team players and 39 to away team players. Three of those seven reds have come in the last two games.
He dismissed his old school pupil James Milner in Liverpool’s 4-3 win against Crystal Palace a week last Saturday and last Saturday dismissed two players in the Accrington v Derby FA Cup tie. Derby’s Jayden Bogle went right at the end but it was the sending off of Daniel Barlaser, among other things, that so upset Accrington boss John Coleman.
Coleman admitted he was losing his love of the game after he considered Moss had more than damaged their chances. Of the second yellow for Barlaser, he said: “He couldn’t wait to get the yellow card out to send him off.” He added: “I feel physically sick. I don’t know if it’s because he’s a Premier League referee he thinks he can rule the roost.”
He’s since apologised to Moss. “It is hard immediately after games, when feelings are still raw,” he said a day later, before adding: “I am not trying to backtrack. I still stand by some of my comments that there were some inconsistencies, especially with some players getting booked and others not for what I saw as similar tackles.”
The assistant referees tonight are Marc Perry and Harry Lennard. The fourth official is Martin Atkinson who refereed our last home game against Fulham.
