1415 burnley marvin sordell 00 630x420Burnley fans have watched Burton Albion’s first season in the Championship with some interest due to their position relatively close to the relegation positions in the Championship, but they can now look forward to a second season in the league having finished the season above Nottingham Forest and relegated Blackburn Rovers, Wigan Athletic and Rotherham United.

They haven’t achieved it without some help from three players who have played for Burnley in the last two seasons. They took Michael Kightly on loan in January and he’s scored four times for them. Three of them were in 2-1 wins and two of them the winning goals.

One of those winning goals was in their last victory when they beat Leeds 2-1 with Marvin Sordell (pictured) scoring the first. Sordell, signed from Coventry in January, has also weighed in with four goals while Lloyd Dyer, who was with us on a short term deal last season, has scored seven times.

Kightly, at the end of his loan, is now back at Burnley although he will be out of contract come the end of the season and it is believed Burton boss Nigel Clough could be keen on him returning although he could face competition from Ipswich with Mick McCarthy having been interested since last year.

However, there remain futures at the Pirelli Stadium for both Dyer and Sordell. Both are now out of contract but Burton have been quick to offer them new deals for next season.
