Defenders Kevin Long and Stephen Ward and midfielder Dean Marney have all signed one year extensions with the Clarets to take all of them to the end of the 2017/18 season.

Long and Marney are our two longest serving players. Long signed in January 2010 with Marney arriving from Hull in the following summer. Ward is now in his third season at Turf Moor.

Long hasn’t played much first team football in recent years. His only involvement in the last Premier League season was as a substitute for Jason Shackell on New Year’s Day 2015 at Newcastle where he went on to suffer a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury. His only first team football since has been in loans at Barnsley and MK.

A month later, Marney suffered the same injury, but he came back towards the end of 2015 although it was very much a stop start affair with various calm and hamstring problems. He has, however, won his place back in the side and has started every game this season.

Ward sat out the first half of last season and it was Michael Duff’s departure from the first team that gave him his opportunity at left-back with Ben Mee moving into the centre. He has been in the side ever since.

Of the first team squad, only Michael Kightly, Paul Robinson, Lukas Jutkiewicz, Danny Lafferty and George Boyd are now in the last year of their contracts.

The Squad List has now been updated.
