For a good number of weeks, Bury led the Youth Alliance League before conceding top spot to Walsall. Last Saturday, Bury made a contribution as the leadership changed hands again with Blackpool going top for the first time all season.

Blackpool had kicked off on Saturday morning a point behind Walsall who surprisingly fell to a 3-2 home defeat against Port Vale. That left Blackpool just needing a point to go top on goal difference but they went better than that, far better, and travelled to Bury’s training ground at Carrington to record a 9-0 victory.

It all started when Sebastien Des Pres, who made his first team debut last week, opened the scoring with a brilliant solo goal after four minutes and by the time a quarter of an hour had been played, Blackpool had gone 5-0 up. It was seven by half time with just two more goals added in the second half.

That’s taken them two points clear at the top and they now have a goal difference that is 15 better than Walsall’s with the two teams set to face each other this Saturday.

Besides those games at Walsall and Bury, only two of the other five went ahead. Our game at Rochdale was a casualty of the weather as were games at Accrington and Wrexham. In the two other games played, Morecambe got another win, this time beating Preston, and Shrewsbury moved above us in the league with a home win against Tranmere.

With us having had both of our last two games called off, we’ve dropped to seventh but only Accrington and Rochdale have played less games than us while Shrewsbury, one point above us, have played four games more.

We will be looking to get back into action this weekend with a home game against Carlisle. Hopefully that game will go ahead and will be our first league game in five weeks since a 1-1 draw at Port Vale on the Saturday before Christmas.

All last week’s results are below along with this week’s fixtures, our goalscorers this season and the current league table.
