O’Neill makes loan move to Oldham
Aiden O’Neill became part of the first team squad this season. He went on the pre-season trip to Evian and went on to make his Premier League debut and get a full game in the League Cup at Accrington.
He’s featured three times as a substitute in the league. That debut came against Liverpool in our first win of the season and he has gone on to have longer spells on the pitch at Chelsea and Southampton when he replaced Steven Defour just before half time.
He’s been back on the bench recently but hasn’t been on the pitch since that 3-1 defeat at Southampton and yesterday he joined Oldham Athletic on loan until the end of the season to get some more first team football.
Oldham are back under the management of John Sheridan, who returned recently, and he said on capturing O’Neill until the end of the season: “He is a good young footballer and good on the ball.
“Aiden is someone different to what we already have. Hopefully he will get hold of the ball and keep possession of it, and it’s a good opportunity for him to come out and play regular first team football. He is definitely good enough but hopefully he will come here, enjoy his time with us and help us to stay in the league.”Share this page :
