Owls remain a point clear
Burnley missed the chance to go top of the U18 Professional Development League at the weekend having failed to beat Ipswich Town but our high scoring draw was beaten by Charlton and Sheffield Wednesday who shared ten goals between them.
We kicked off the day in second place and looked to at least be set to hold that position when we led 3-0 at Ipswich with just over half an hour gone. It seemed inconceivable that Ipswich, who had lost their two previous games 6-1, could come back but they did and in the end we had to score a dramatic equaliser to get a point from a 4-4 draw.
A win would have seen us move ahead of Sheffield Wednesday who also drew, but they and Charlton went one better than us with the game ending 5-5. The point was just enough to keep Wednesday on top of the league with Nottingham Forest, above us on goal difference, now having gone second and with a game in hand. They too were among the goals, another team to score four, but they did so with no reply from Bristol City.
As the north v south games continue, Watford dropped points for the first time, being held to a draw by Hull, but they still lead their group by a point from Millwall who hammered Crewe 5-1.
Sheffield United, albeit from just two games, are the only team in the north without a point while Coventry are similarly placed in the south. But Wednesday, Forest, Hull, Watford and Crystal Palace all remain unbeaten.
There are two games scheduled for this afternoon and nine games this Saturday including Burnley’s third home game of the season which is against Colchester.
