1718 burnley nick pope 00 500x500Nick Pope followed up his man of the match performance at Watford with another top quality show in the win against Leicester last Saturday and that means he’s a big contended for the Up the Clarets Player of the Year Award, if not the favourite.

This latest performance from the England goalkeeper elect saw him win the man of the match with 60% of the vote. He was followed by two of his defenders; right-back Matt Lowton was second with 15% while a share of 11% of the vote won third place for Kevin Long. Fourth place in the vote went to the returning Jόhann Berg Guðmundsson who secured 4% of the vote.

The top four in the player ratings were the same as in the vote and in the same order. Pope won it with a rating of 8.71 out of 10. Lowton secured a rating of 8.10 and Long was in third place with 7.80. Again Guðmundsson secured fourth place with a rating of 7.51 out of 10.

It’s another maximum of ten points for Pope with six points won by Lowton, four points for Long and Guðmundsson winning two points, and those points are certainly very significant for Pope who is now within two points of the top.

Steven Defour still leads the way with 93 points despite not having played since January and he has a one point lead over Ben Mee who himself is currently out injured and, according to some reports, won’t play again this season. Pope has now moved within one point of Mee with James Tarkowski a further six points behind with 85 points and then Guðmundsson with 80 points. It’s going to be a close finish as the contenders look to get past the top two.

The next vote starts tonight following our home game against Chelsea and the Leicester result is below along with the current player of the year table.
