colne 1000x500The first team are will be playing Cork in their first pre-season friendly tonight and tomorrow it’s the turn of the youth team (under-18s) and the under-23s to kick start their pre-seasons with games against Fleetwood and Colne respectively.

Having not made the Cork trip, I’m looking forward to getting my first Burnley football fix since the end of last season and will hopefully be taking in both games with the youths at home to Fleetwood at 11 a.m. and the under-23s facing Colne at Holt House four hours later.

There will be a number of new players to see too. We’ve got eleven new scholars available to Danny Cadamarteri. Some of them have been involved previously with the youth team but others not so and it will be a first opportunity to take a look at some of them.

The under-23s will be without goalkeeper Conor Mitchell, who was captaining the side at the end of last season, Jimmy Dunne, Aiden O’Neill and Dwight McNeil who are all with the first team, but they will be able to include the half dozen new signings who helped make such a difference towards the end of last season when they were in on trial.

The two teams might look somewhat different than last season and it will be the same on the touchline for the under-23s. Coach Michael Duff is in Cork standing in for Tony Loughlan whilst Andy Farrell is also unavailable. Head of academy recruitment, and former Bradford City manager, Nicky Law will stand in.
