preston 3 1000x500Over the past week or so, Preston have been linked with moves for Tom Heaton, then Nick Pope and finally Joe Hart as they searched for a new goalkeeper.

There were suggestions that they’d contacted Burnley but had been rebuffed by Sean Dyche, but, in any case, they have now signed Middlesbrough goalkeeper Connor Ripley, son of former Blackburn winger Stuart Ripley.

He’s been on loan with Accrington for the first half of the season but will now join North End on a three and a half year contract.

Ripley, who has spent most of his time out on loan, made just one league start for Middlesbrough and that was against us seven years ago next week when we turned in a superb performance at the Riverside, winning 2-0 with goals from Jay Rodriguez and Kieran Trippier.
