Lee Probert has refereed Burnley on twelve occasions but tomorrow’s home game against Watford will be just his fourth at Turf Moor and his first since we played Derby County in January 2012.

When Probert, from Wiltshire, refereed our game at Bournemouth at the end of last season it was his first Burnley game in the Premier League since our 3-0 defeat at Manchester United in 2010, but he’d fought back from a long injury that had kept him out for the entire 2015/16 season.

He didn’t have that good a game at Bournemouth but he certainly did recently when he was in charge of our 1-0 win at Southampton. It wasn’t a difficult game to referee but he helped make it so.

It’s not all been plain sailing for him this season, however. He came in for criticism by both mnagers in the Brentford v Millwall game in October and more recently David Wagner, the Huddersfield boss, believed it was Probert’s mistakes that led to his team’s 4-0 defeat at Bournemouth, Wagner accusing him of mistakes that led to Bournemouth’s first two goals.

Bournemouth had Simon Francis sent off in that game, one of three red cards he’s shown this season, the other two coming in Portsmouth’s 2-0 win against Rochdale on the opening day of the season. He hasn’t been over busy with his yellow cards; there have been just 22 in 13 games with 13 of them going to home team players and nine to away team players.

In five games this season there have been no cards at all and that includes there of his last four games, the exception being that game at Bournemouth where there were six yellow cards to add to the red.

His last game was on Tuesday 28th November, the 2-2 draw between West Brom and Newcastle at the Hawthorns, the latest in his card free games.

Lee Probert is currently 9th in the RATE THE REF table with a rating of 67.84 out of 100.

The assistant referees are Simon Beck (Bedfordshire) and Andy Garratt (West Midlands). The fourth official is Andre Marriner (West Midlands) whose last Burnley game was the 2-0 FA Cup win against Bristol City last January.
