Kevin Long captained the side

Burnley’s development squad played their third pre-season game tonight against Altrincham at Moss Lane and kept a third successive clean sheet in a largely uninspiring 0-0 draw.

Burnley included some of the first team squad with Nick Pope in goal, Kevin Long captaining the side from the back and Rouwen Hennings lining up in attack alongside Dan Agyei, but It was a game in which neither goalkeeper really had much to do and it was no surprise that it ended 0-0.

It was difficult to judge us to be honest and some of the players on view I was seeing for the first time, players such as Robbie Leitch who played on the left, but with both defences on top it was perhaps fair to say that our best players were in the back four, particularly the two central defenders, Tom Anderson and Long, alongside a combative display from Arlen Birch at right-back and another decent show from Jimmy Dunne who this time played at left-back.

The Burnley team tonight was: Nick Pope, Arlen Birch, Kevin Long (Taofiq Olomowewe 72), Tom Anderson, Jimmy Dunne, Brad Jackson, Freddy Yao (Jamie Thomas ht), Trialist, Robbie Leitch, Dan Agyei (Fraser Murdoch ht), Rouwen Hennings (Khius Metz 72). Subs not used: Conor Mitchell, Ntumba Massanka.

Attendance: 300.
