1819 burnley vinnie steels 01 1000x500Eight days ago we brought you the news that Burnley were signing York City youngster Vinnie Steels and this morning the club have confirmed the signing of the player who will be joining our under-23 squad.

He’s already made his first team debut for the Minstermen, that coming against Nuneaton Town last season. That was as a substitute but four days later he got his first start against Gainsborough Trinity and then went on to make two further substitute appearances.

He was offered a deal by York but opted to make the move to Burnley, where he has signed a two year deal, and he’s already settled in with the squad having joined them at Lilleshall this week where we play games against Walsall (today) and Wolves (Friday).

Steels said: “I had a few clubs interested in me at the start of pre-season but once I heard Burnley were, I just wanted to come to Burnley. The new training facilities are unbelievable. They are definitely some of the best I have seen. Also, I know a couple of the lads here already so it’s nice.”

He posted a message on Twitter which read: “It’s a dream come true to join a Premier League club and I cannot wait to get started at Burnley.

“I am so thankful to everyone at York City, Dave Penney, the players, Buster and especially Martin Gray who believed in me when others didn’t. He signed me at Darlington and then York and gave me my first team debut at 16. I will be forever grateful to him. I really hope that a great group of lads and a fantastic football club can get promoted this season as they deserve it and so do the fans.

“Now it’s time for a new adventure and my target is to be involved with the first team at Burnley as soon as possible. I had lots of options of clubs to join in the Premier League and the Championship but I chose Burnley as I know that if I work hard and improve every day that I’ll be given my chance here.”
