1516 burnley matt gilks 00 300x500Rangers, without summer signing Joey Barton, are currently on a pre-season trip to South Carolina. Although Joey was unable to go, due to Visa issues according to the Scottish press, one ex-Claret on the trip is Matt Gilks who is loving life again.

Rangers, via their website, reported yesterday that Gilks has found the perfect fit there after admitting that he struggled to fit in at Burnley during his two years with us and said that he’d felt suppressed.

“I had been a bit quiet at Burnley so I have two years to come out,” Gilks said. “I haven’t been that quiet here and that is a bit more me, I am a bit more jovial.

“I found it hard to be like that at Burnley, I don’t really know why. I had just gone into a team that had been promoted to the Premier League and I was on the fringes of that at first and I maybe felt a bit suppressed.

“This (Rangers) feels like a better fit for me. I can just be myself and Jim (Stewart, the goalkeeping coach) said to me as soon as I came through the door ‘We just want to you be you because we know what you are about’ and I think I’ve done that.

“Here I have come in and the lads are brilliant, we have a great mixture of young and old and there are a lot of good characters in the building so I can bounce off them. The lads are getting to know me now and they know I’m about hard work but I like a laugh and a joke at the right times.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed it since I have been here, I really have.”
