1819 burnley james tarkowski 00 500x500Brighton’s Lewis Dunk was named as a replacement for James Tarkowski this morning for England’s forthcoming internationals against Croatia and Spain.

The news on Tarkowski has now been confirmed by Burnley. He was forced off in the win at Cardiff a week ago and it was a surprise that he played yesterday given that he was considered touch and go by manager Sean Dyche.

He’ll now spend time at Gawthorpe receiving treatment for the injury and he said: “I’ve had a problem for quite a while now and we’re working hard to get things right. But it’s not as simple as just a week’s rest and everything’s fine.

“We’ve got to be at it all the time to get things right, which we are doing, and hopefully over the next few weeks we can get that right.”

Tarkowski, who had to withdraw from the squad when placed on standby for the World Cup, has won two England caps. He made his debut in a friendly against Italy and last month was in the side that beat Switzerland 1-0.
