Anthony Taylor will referee our Premier League game at Swansea tomorrow in what will be his third Burnley game this season having previously taken charge of our game at Leicester and the home game against Crystal Palace.

Taylor has certainly improved as a referee since he first took charge of a Burnley game. That was in December 2008 when he had a game to forget in a game to remember for us when we won 3-2 against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

He became headline news earlier this season when Jose Mourinho suggested he couldn’t have a good game following his appointment to Manchester United’s game against Liverpool and he was accused of being dishonest by Arsène Wenger recently when the Arsenal boss wasn’t happy over the award of our penalty at the Emirates given by Jon Moss. Taylor was the fourth official who was also given some abuse by Wenger.

But generally, he’s having a decent season and he’s certainly very much a top division and international referee these days; it is over a year since he last refereed in the Football League.

This season, in 23 domestic games, he’s issued 97 yellow cards and three red cards. Of those yellow cards, 41 have gone to home team players and 56 to away team players although all three of the red cards have seen home team players sent off.

The first two were Fernandinho and Sergio Aguero in Manchester City’s 3-1 defeat at home against Chelsea. Both were dismissed after a number of players became involved following a shocker of a challenge by Aguero. He also sent off Stoke’s Marko Arnautovic in their 0-0 home draw against Southampton.

His most recent game was the Europa League game between Ajax and Legia Warsaw but his last domestic game was Liverpool’s 2-0 home win against Spurs three weeks ago. James Milner, Joel Matip and Jordan Henderson (Liverpool) were all yellow carded as were Spurs’ Toby Alderweireld, Son Heung-Min, Eric Dier, Harry Kane and Harry Winks.

Anthony Taylor is currently 13th in RATE THE REF with a rating of 62.28 out of 100.

The assistant referees are Jake Collin (Merseyside) and Simon Bennett (Staffordshire). The fourth official is Stuart Attwell (Nuneaton) who refereed our FA Cup 3rd round game at Sunderland.
