Ten man Clarets can’t hang on
Our under-23 team have slumped to the bottom of the Professional Development League this afternoon having been beaten 2-1 by Leeds United at their Thorp Arch training ground, but things turned against us when we went down to ten men.
After a goalless first half, Leeds went in front just eight minutes after the break with the opening goal scored by Eoghan Stokes, but Burnley were level just past the hour with a goal from Dan Agyei (pictured) in his first game since returning from his loan at Walsall, he striker scoring from close range after Tinashe Chakwana’s shot had been saved by home goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
But the game turned against Burnley just a few minutes later when Conor Mitchell, another player back in action after a return from loan, was sent off for a foul on Malik Williams. That saw a quick change with Tunde Bayode sacrificed to allow substitute goalkeeper Connor King to come on.
But four minutes later, Leeds regained the lead with a goal from the edge of the box into the bottom corner from Alex Machucha and that secured the points for the home side.
The Burnley team was: Conor Mitchell, Arlen Birch, Harry Flowers, Alex Whitmore, Ali Koiki, Tunde Bayode (Connor King 70), Rahis Nabi, Christian N’Guessan, Tinashe Chakwana, Ntumba Massanka, Dan Agyei. Subs not used: Terry Mupariwa, Jamie Thomas, Harry Limb, Rain.Share this page :
