When Andre Gray scored his second goal at Swansea it took Burnley’s total of Premier League goals to 100 and last week we conducted a voting poll to determine which of a selection of twenty you considered to be the best of them.

There were seven from 2009/10, our first season in the Premier League, a further seven from 2014/15 and six from this season, and we didn’t need to go too far down the list to find the winner with Burnley’s first ever Premier League goal taking the title of the best.

Voters were able to select three goals and a massive 67% of them went for Robbie Blake’s sensational winner in the first home game in the Premier League against Manchester United.

I think we were all nervous as Turf Moor opened its Premier League doors for the first time. To win the game was one thing, to win it with such a goal was something else. The only disappointment was that the goal proved to be Robbie’s last at Turf Moor; he scored just once more for us, that coming at Ewood Park.

Second and third places went to goals scored this season. Jeff Hendrick took second place for his goal against Bournemouth, volleying home after bringing down the ball from Matt Lowton.

Third place went to Steven Defour. His goal against Hull remains his only league goal for us but it was a special goal. He received the ball from Dean Marney in his own half of the pitch and turned brilliantly to beat his opponent before going on a run forward and unleashing a stunning shot from 30 yard that few into the corner of the net.

Robbie Brady took fourth place with his free kick equaliser on his first Burnley start against Chelsea and the highest placed goal from the 2014/15 was the strike from Ashley Barnes at Tottenham just beating his late winner this season against Crystal Palace.

Barnes scored the 101st goal at Liverpool three days ago. I’m sure we’ll have another vote when the total reaches 200.

The result is below.

67% – Robbie Blake v Manchester United (h) – 2009/10
