Tierney starts and ends our December
Paul Tierney from Wigan blew the first whistle to kick off our December at Leicester and he’ll blow the last tomorrow when he takes charge of our Premier League game at Huddersfield.
Tomorrow will be his seventh Burnley game and, worryingly, he’s had six disappointing game so far. The first of those six was at Barnsley when he yellow carded the wrong player, Brian Stock rather than Michael Duff, and then sent him off for a second yellow, and he had a nightmare performance in that most recent game at Leicester when he got so many decisions wrong it was difficult to believe.
Last time out was the Brighton v Watford clash a week ago. Reports suggested he ruined the game, one report suggesting he was determined to rid the game of its rhythm, but that’s no surprise from a referee who, generally, seems to have no interest in letting the game flow.
The assistant referees are Matthew Wilkes and Sian Massey-Ellis (both West Midlands). The fourth official is Michael Oliver (Northumberland) who was in the middle just a week ago when Spurs visited Turf Moor.
He doesn’t over use his cards and there have been just 39 yellows in 14 games this season with 14 of those having gone to home team players and 25 to away team players. He hasn’t sent off a player since dismissing Watford’s Miguel Britos at the beginning of April.
Paul Tierney is bottom of RATE THE REF with a rating of 51.06 out of 100.
I wouldn’t expect a free flowing game with this referee unless we get a very different performance from him than we’ve seen previously.
