decade rightbacksWith Tom Heaton already in place in our Burnley team of the last ten years, it’s now time to choose a right-back to go into that team and, as with the goalkeepers, there are five to choose from.

It hasn’t been a position to have seen much change and the first two seasons, 2009/10 and 2010/11, saw the position occupied by Tyrone Mears (82 starts). When Mears and Chris Eagles jumped ship together for Bolton in 2011 we brought in a young player on loan from Manchester City by the name of Kieran Trippier (170) who became a regular in the number two shirt for the next four seasons.

Tendayi Darikwa (21) and Matt Lowton (105) shared the position in 2015/16 before Lowton made it his own until the last season when he has had to watch Phil Bardsley(32) take his place.

That’s your choice – it’s Mears, Trippier, Darikwa, Lowton and Bardsley. The vote is now open but will close at the end of Wednesday. The poll is below and, if viewing the desktop version, on all pages below the monthly archive links.

Who has been our best right-back in the last ten years?

  • Kieran Trippier (94%, 977 Votes)
  • Matt Lowton (3%, 30 Votes)
  • Phil Bardsley (2%, 16 Votes)
  • Tyrone Mears (1%, 8 Votes)
  • Tendayi Darikwa (1%, 7 Votes)

Total Voters: 1,038
