The Football League are reporting that Keith Stroud will referee tonight’s game against Cardiff and Burnley have also have reported the same. The Football League confirmed the appointment over a week ago but there have been suggestions that there has been a late change with Geoff Eltringham standing in.

If so, it would be a second Burnley game of the season for Eltringham after he took charge of our league game at Middlesbrough in December and a sixth Burnley game overall with all but that Middlesbrough game being at Turf Moor.

He’s refereed 34 games this season and has handed out 90 yellow cards, with just 28 to home team players and 62 to away team players. There have also been eight red cards, five of them in the Championship.

One of those red cards came in his last game which was Reading’s 1-0 win at Bolton last Saturday. There were also five yellow cards in that game. Bolton’s R Holding was the player sent off whilst they also had Darren Pratley yellow carded. Reading saw four players receive yellow cards, they were Chris Gunter, Stephen Quinn, Yann Kermogant and Ola John.

Geoff Eltringham is 57th in RATE THE REF with a rating of 42.35 out of 100.

Should there be this change of referee, it will be the same assistants and fourth official. The assistant referees are Christopher Akers (South Yorkshire) and Alf Greenwood (North Yorkshire) and the fourth official is Football League referee Ross Joyce (Cleveland) who is still to take charge of a Burnley game.
