Top form Tarky takes the honours again
James Tarkowski’s performance at Wolves last Sunday has won him the player ratings for a third successive game this season and this time he was able to add the man of the match award to it.
It’s no surprise to see him winning again. He played really well in the games against Southampton and Arsenal but was even better, I felt, at Wolves alongside the equally impressive Ben Mee, in a team performance that came within seconds of recording a win.
Tarkowski won the man of the match with 45% of the vote, ahead of Mee who came in second with a 23% share. Ashley Barnes, who scored his fourth goal in three league games, took third place with 17% while Ashley Westwood was fourth with a 6% share of the vote.
We had the same top three in the player ratings. Tarkowski became the first player this season to score nine in a game, he topped the ratings with exactly nine out of ten. Mee scored 8.38 to come seconds with Barnes rating at 8.10. Matt Lowton was fourth; his rating was 7.57 out of 10.
That results has given Tarkowski the maximum ten points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year which has given last season’s winner an early eleven point lead. That’s ahead of Barnes, who won four points, and one point behind Barnes comes Mee who won six points for his performance at Wolves. For both Lowton and Westwood, they were the first points of the season.
The Sunderland voting continues until around 8 p.m. tomorrow and it will then be followed by the vote for the Liverpool game.
