1718 burnley craig ellison 00 500x500Fourth place Burnley take on second place Nottingham Forest tomorrow afternoon at Gawthorpe in the U18 Professional Development League.

Whilst we were losing at Leeds last Saturday, Forest were beating Bolton and those two results allowed Leeds to go ahead of Bolton at the top of the league. Forest and Burnley have been up there towards the top, and at the top at times, virtually throughout the season.

We’d worked our way back into first place but have suffered defeats in each of the last two games. The first of them was a surprise home loss against a Crewe side who kicked off bottom whilst last week we were beaten at Leeds when the team were affected by the first team injuries which forced some players who were involved with the under-23s on the Friday night at Colchester to race back north to play on the Saturday morning.

Forest were top when we played them away from home back in November but it was Burnley who won the game 3-2 with goals from Dwight McNeil, Bobby Thomas and Craig Ellison (pictured) who scored his first Burnley goal having signed from Spennymoor.

That result saw us move up to the same fourth place we currently occupy but so tight has this league been all season, it caused Forest to drop from first to fifth.

Kick off tomorrow is at the later time of 12 noon but if you are intending to watch the game be aware that the last 12 o’clock kick off actually got underway around ten minutes early.
