1617 burnley tyler shrimpton 00 300x500While the first team are travelling south this weekend for the game at Southampton on Sunday, the youth team will be heading in the opposite direction to play their most northerly league fixture of the season at Carlisle.

We go into this game having won last time out against Bury, the team that has spent most of the season so far at the top of the league, and we now come up against a Carlisle side who have faltered in recent weeks.

They kicked off their season with a 0-0 draw at Preston but then went on to record four successive league victories, against Fleetwood, Wrexham, Tranmere and Wigan, and cup wins against Hartlepool and York. The league wins took them, briefly to the top of the league but since they have lost twice. They were beaten 4-1 at home by Blackpool two weeks ago and last week were on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline at Morecambe.

Those defeats have seen the Cumbrians drop to sixth in the table although they remain just three points behind leaders Blackpool. We are currently a further two places and two points behind them having played a game more.

We took one point from Carlisle last season. Goals from Tommy Wood and Tyler Shrimpton (pictured) saw us get a point from a 2-2 draw in the away game but the home game was lost 3-1 with Nashé Chakwana scoring our goal.

We only have to go back one further year to find the last victory against them; the 2014/15 season saw us do the double over Carlisle. Brad Jackson and Ntumba Massanka scored in a 2-1 away win and the return game saw us win 6-0. On that occasion goals from Jamal Crawford, Khius Metz and Jackson gave us a 3-0 lead before a Josh Dolling hat trick completed the scoring.

The game kicks off tomorrow at 11 a.m. and will be played at Creighton Rugby Club – postcode CA1 3SR.
