gawthorpe 2 1000x500The Burnley  players have taken a step closer to match fitness this afternoon in two games against League One clubs Blackpool and Shrewsbury Town although both games ended in defeat.

Blackpool beat us 2-0 with a goal in each half, from Joseph Dodoo in the first half and Harry Pritchard after the break. The Shrewsbury game ended 1-0 with their goal coming 16 minutes from the end.

The exercise was all about getting the players some game time, and in particular getting them full games wherever possible. We were still without Steven Defour and Robbie Brady but there was a return for Matt Lowton who missed the game at Cork.

Although back in training, Jόhann Berg Guðmundsson didn’t feature and neither did Ashley Barnes who is suffering from blisters.

The teams were;

v Blackpool: Adam Legzdins (Anders Lindegaard ht), Phil Bardsley, Jimmy Dunne, Ben Mee, Stephen Ward, Dwight McNeil, Jeff Hendrick, Jack Cork, Jon Walters, Sam Vokes, Nahki Wells (Ntumba Massanka 55).

v Shrewsbury: Tom Heaton (Adam Legzdins 60), Matt Lowton (James Clarke 72), Kevin Long, James Tarkowski, Charlie Taylor, Aaron Lennon, Ashley Westwood, Aiden O’Neill, Ali Koiki (Tinashe Chakwana 60), Chris Wood, Dan Agyei.
