michael duff 300x400Our under-23 team have two games this week; a league game at Crewe Alexandra tomorrow followed by the visit of Colchester United in the Premier League Cup on Thursday.

Michael Duff was very critical of the team after last Monday’s 6-1 home defeat against Sheffield United at Curzon Ashton. He praised both Dean Marney and Nahki Wells but had nothing positive to say about the rest of the team in a game where we were second best from the minute they opened the scoring in the second minute.

That win took Sheffield United to the top of the league temporarily but tomorrow we take on a Crewe team who, like us, have won just twice all season. We’ve beaten Ipswich and Leeds while Crewe have recorded victories against Millwall and Bristol City.

I’m expecting Crewe to be similar to Burnley in that it is likely to be a very young team. Other than the returning Marney and Wells, and occasional appearances from Fredrik Ulvestad, we’ve fielded some very young teams with no other over age outfield players and often a team made up of under-20s.

Tomorrow’s game kicks off at 1 p.m. and will be played at Crewe’s Gresty Road ground.
