Sam Vokes scored both our goals in last Saturday’s 2-2 home draw against West Bromwich Albion and his overall performance has won him both the man of the match vote and the player ratings.

It was Vokes’ first brace since he scored our first two in the 3-2 win at Fulham in March last year and his first at Turf Moor since we beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 in our 2013/14 promotion season. The goals also left him one short of a half century of league goals in Burnley colours.

But it wasn’t just the goals. He caused the Baggies’ defence problems all afternoon and with any luck at all could have had his first Burnley hat trick.

Vokes won 42% of the man of the match vote and was followed by Ashley Westwood who took second place with a 20% share. James Tarkowski, getting his second start in the Premier League, took third place with 16% while Jeff Hendrick came in fourth place with 9% of the vote.

I can’t recall the man of the match vote and the player ratings ever having been quite so closely matched before with only a couple of differences between them, one of them in the top four with two players switching places.

Vokes was again the winner with a rating of 8.07 out of 10 while Westwood was again second with 7.89. Third and fourth switched places with Hendrick in third place with a rating of 7.66 and Tarkowski’s rating of 7.59 out of 10 winning him fourth place.

The points awarded towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year are ten for Vokes, six for Westwood and three each for Hendrick and Tarkowski but the table has hardly changed with the top two out of action.

Ben Mee is still the favourite to become the first ever Up the Clarets Player of the Year, currently holding a lead of 11 points over his defensive team mate Michael Keane. Third place has now been confirmed with Tom Heaton holding a 24 point lead over Hendrick who is fourth.

The next vote will be for the Bournemouth game this Saturday and is expected to be underway with an hour of the final whistle.

The West Brom result is below followed by the current player of the year table.
