1516 burnley khius metz 00 630x420Two days ago our development, under-21 squad, beat Crewe 1-0 in a game played at Turf Moor. Khius Metz (pictured) scored the only goal of the game in just the second minute when he chased down a back pass , blocked an intended clearance and then shot into an empty net.

However, it was a performance that did not impress coach Michael Jolley who described it as unacceptable. He said after the game: “We were looking to build on last week’s performance (at Middlesbrough), but after taking an early lead we lacked quality and lacked intensity too.

“I had a chat with the players after the game and I told them under no uncertain terms was today’s performance acceptable.”

He added: “Discussions will now be held to decide which direction we want to take the development group, whether it’s to get players into the first team or to get players out playing Football League football, as we have done with four of our players this season.”

The game saw the return of both Alex Whitmore and Josh Ginnelly who have been out on loan at Gateshead and Altrincham respectively. Both played the second half.

The Burnley team was: Conor Mitchell, Arlen Birch, Taofiq Olomowewe, Trialist, Christian Hill, Brad Jackson, Aiden O’Neill, Trialist, George Green, Khius Metz, Ntumba Massanka. Subs: Connor King, Alex Whitmore, Josh Ginnelly.
